We can rather easily disprove Shusterman's H-1B numbers.

Computer related H-1B Continuing Approvals which represent initial approval in 1997 - 1999.

2000 = 73,875
2001 = 80,684
2002 = 49,477

Total Continuing approvals = 204,006

Computer related Initial H-1B approvals.
2000 = 74,551
2001 = 110,713
2002 = 25,637
2003 = 28,879
2004 = 56,559
2005 = 52,352
Computer related Initial H-1B Approvals = 348,691

So, from 1997 to 2005 the total Computer related H-1B visa, were at least 552,697. A net loss of 100,000 jobs for Americans.

Data is from H-1B Characteristic's reports.

Amen! DOL reviews are pointlessly byzanting and add unneeded cost. We could dispense with teh entire system if we scarpped all considerations save security, health and criminal screenings and then just let employers pay a fee to hire these folks in. In fact, we could do that for all immigrants and decrease corruption, disruptions and it would put peoples' moeny where their mouths are.
Far more transparent and easier to adminsiter. Besides, it could be significantly revenue positive.
