Greg Siskind on Immigration Law and Policy

Obama Expands Lead with Latino Voters

Rate this Entry

A new poll from Latino Decision shows the President now beating Governor Romney by almost 50 points (70-22) in this key demographic. That's a five point improvement just over the past month which is an indication that Romney and the Republicans' response to the DREAM Act deferred action policy and the Supreme Court's decision ruling against most of the Arizona SB1070 law are not going over well. The President has never hit 70% before in the Latino Decisions poll.

From Latino Decisions:

Obama maintains a substantial lead over Romney within nearly all segments of the Latino electorate.  Among foreign-born, naturalized citizens Obama leads 72% to 19% and among U.S.-born Latinos he leads 69% to 25%.  Similarly, Obama polls ahead of Romney by a large margin, 76% to 15% among Spanish dominant Latinos, and also has a healthy lead of 66% to 28% from English dominant.  Two concerns for Romney may be that 13% of self-identified Latino Republicans say they will cross-over and vote for Obama and 60% of Independents plan to vote for Obama.  In contrast only 2% of Democrats say they plan to vote for Romney.

The pollsters also remind people that they should be cautious about viewing the results of general polls that report Latino preferences because of very small sample sizes. The poll here included 504 respondents.

"The ordinance provides for CPD training in conjunction with immigrant advocacy groups"

Let me get this straight: the government workers whose duty is to enforce law are going to be "trained" by radicals whose mission is to prevent enforcement of law.

"we put creating a united, cohesive society
over trying to draw dividing lines." -- Rep. Luis Gutierrez

Sovereign nations, by definition, draw lines between citizens and non-citizens, legal residents and non-legal residents. Gutierrez is an elected representative of the U.S. but does not even recognize its sovereignty!

"There is a difference between people who come here to contribute to the well-being of their
families and in the process contribute to the well-being of their city, with those who engage in
criminal activity, and in the process, destroy our quality of life," stated Juan Rangel, CEO of The
    United Neighborhood Organization (UNO).

Actually, there is no difference under the law. Of course, law does not mean much to some people. Even the president ignores it routinely and not just when it comes to immigration.

Jack, so in your mind, there is no difference between a parking violation and a robbery, too? Really?

With polls showing a virtual tie, Romney's position on illegal immigration undergoes major transformation.

"Illegal immigrants who apply for legal status should not be given any advantage over those who are following the law and waiting their turn. Mitt absolutely opposes any policy that would allow illegal immigrants to "cut in line."

Those are separate violations of law. My point was that immigration law makes no distinction between "good" and "bad" violators--open border activists like to make one and act like there must be some accompanying illegal activity (of a major variety) to justify enforcement of immigration law. If you listen to Emanuel and Gutierrez, illegal presence itself is nothing for the government to concern itself with and enforcement simply for illegal presence is an affront.

Emanuel's ordinance and PR campaign to literally welcome illegal aliens (and thus invite more people to enter illegally or overstay visas) proves that the "public safety" excuse to not enforce immigration law is just rationalization. Their true intent could not be clearer than their official "Regardless Of Immigration Status" welcome mat. More illegal immigration is Gutierrez's "forward looking" policy he expresses so much pride in.

It's pretty innocuous civil violation. Please remember that the US has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Immigrants, even illegal ones are much less likely to be criminals than Americans, so adding them actually reduces the crime rate.

Jack and his crown always want to equate Immigrants to criminals, because that make their case for selling fear to the American public easier. If people are afraid they stop thinking logicslly and rationally to solve problems and buy into the whole demonization, criminalizaqtion and dehumanization of immigrants. The immigration system in the US needs reforming even Jack and his crowd know that but her just keep selling the fear becase they like the status quo....that is their bread and butter other wise they would have to figure out who to hate next....too much work let's just stick to the immigrants that has worked for years what stop a good thing...right Jack. And please repsond with a ridiculous rationalization like " we are anation of laws" or " we just want the laws enforced" or " we do not hate immigrants but the need to get in line" or "we have too many americans out of work and we do not need to bring in foreign people right now" teach us a few new ones Jack out of your extensive collection.

So Another Voice thinks rule of law is "ridiculous". Democracy cannot survive without it, but whatever.

    "It's pretty innocuous civil violation."

Open border propaganda pushes the misleading notion that civil = not serious. It is because an 1893 Supreme Court decision established that removal is not a punishment for a crime. Those who wish to make it harder to deport aliens might wish unlawful presence were a crime but there are also some advantages for pro-local enforcement advocates if it were. These issues came up in analysis of 2005's "Sensenbrenner bill".

Jack, open your eyes, it's 2012 and Supreme Court just a month ago said - illegal presence is NOT a crime. Again, NOT a crime.
