Greg Siskind on Immigration Law and Policy

Romney Again Dodges Responding to Immigration News

Rate this Entry

Now it's refusing to signify whether he thinks the Arizona immigration law is good policy. Simply saying Obama is to blame is not an appropriate response when specific questions are asked regarding your views of immigration policies.

Here are some questions that just require a simple yes or no.

  • Do you think the Supreme Court should have invalidated three sections of the Arizona immigration law?

  • Do you think the part of the Arizona law upheld regarding police checks is a good idea?

  • Would you keep President Obama's DREAM policy in place while you pursued the long term solution you claim you'll be able to get passed by Congress?

  • Do you still back up your vow to veto the DREAM Act?

  • Do you still think the best policy to deal with illegal immigration is to get people to "self-deport" by making life as tough as possible for them here in the US?

Reporters shouldn't move on when Romney or his spokespeople try and dodge the question. Ask for a one word answer and if you get more than that, just ask again and ask again.

I admire Romney's business skills but he is going to get creamed in the debates if he avoids issues like this.

In reality Romney likes undocumented workers. He even agreed during the primaries, that he had to fire his undocumented employee only because he was running for office. Normally when he is not running for office, he employs undocumented workers and his sons also do the same. He is stuck with mental Republicans who are driving him crazy. HeHe!!

Here's a question which needs to be asked (but won't be):

In an August 10, 2011 interview at the White House, Latina Magazine asked you why your administration continues to deport Dream Act-eligible students:

You responded, "Well, the truth of the matter is that we have exercised as much administrative discretion as we can."

How do you reconcile your June 15, 2012 directive with that statement and similar statements which you have made? Is not your directive to stop removal of a Dream Act-like category of aliens a direct contradiction of your prior statements?

As expected race is tightening again between Obama and Romney. Dream Act relief fails to register any significant impact.

You are right. But when 90 law professors wrote to the president and explained the tools he had in his disposal, the administration had to change its previous stand and issue the dream act directive. The administration has done its homework anticipating all these type of questions.

I dunno, gg. Obama is leading by 9% in Ohio, according to the latest Quinnipiac (sp?) poll.

@LNLW, Look at the averages of all polls both left leaning and right leaning. When gap is within margin of error, it means race is very tight. Once we have the Supreme Court verdict on health care, the race is going to fundamentally change. The Dream Act directive has not had much impact since its "not the real one". Dreamers know unless a law is passed, they can be deported. Many are reconsidering applying for deferred action and prefer to wait until law is passed. They fear exposing themselves and their families for deportation once they register for deferred action and provide details of parents etc. Dreamers are undocumented but not foolish. They seem to understand the fine print of the dream act directive better than Democrat strategist do.

If you are interested in keeping up with the electoral count the site below is a good starting point:

    http://www.electoral-vote.com/

If you hover over a state it gives the latest poll, when it was conducted, by who and what the results are.

If the election were today and the polls were accurate, Obama would win by a landslide!

The Senate is 51-46 in favor the rats with 3 ties.

gg, this is a typical case when people say that the decision makes them less likely to vote for a candidate, but yet he gets more support after it. Anyone who have done enough market research knows you can't trust what people said they'd do, only trust what they have done already.

The memo from the law professors didn't tell DHS or the White House anything they didn't already know. As the leaked USCIS memo (http://www2.nationalreview.com/memo_UCIS_072910.html) and DHS HQ memo (http://media.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/documents/dhs_draft_memo_09222010.pdf) from 2010 made clear, DHS has known full well for years that it has the authority to grant deferred action to all DREAM Act beneficiaries. The DHS HQ memo actually contemplates parole or deferred action, as appropriate, for ALL illegal aliens.
