New Poll Shows Obama Maintaining Huge Lead Over Romney with Latino Voters

Rate this Entry

From CNN:

On the day Mitt Romney reached out to Latino voters at a gathering in the nation's capital, a new poll indicated that he has his work cut out for him.

According to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Telemundo poll, 61% of registered Latino voters said they support President Barack Obama for re-election, with 27% backing Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

The survey showed Obama's approval rating as president stands at 61% among Latino adults, compared to his overall 48% approval rating among all Americans. The president's approval rating on the economy stands at 54% among Latinos, 11 points higher than his overall approval rating on the economy.

The NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Telemundo poll is the most recent survey to indicate the president has an extremely large lead among Latino voters. And the poll's Wednesday release came as Romney addressed the Latino Coalition at an event at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, where the former Massachusetts governor proposed dramatically expanding school choice for low-income and disabled children.

    Future America ? Shrinking cities

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-24/half-of-detroit-s-streetlights-may-go-out-as-city-shrinks.html

Other U.S. cities have gone partially dark to save money, among them Colorado Springs; Santa Rosa, California; and Rockford, Illinois. Detroit's plan goes further: It would leave sparsely populated swaths unlit in a community of 713,000 that covers more area than Boston, Buffalo and San Francisco combined. Vacant property and parks account for 37 square miles (96 square kilometers), according to city planners.
