New Charges of Racism Leveled Against Kobach

Rate this Entry

Hat tip to reader Another Voice for posting this in the comments. Mitt Romney's will likely appoint Kris Kobach to be director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement as payback for his endorsement if he happens to get elected President. So when Politico publishes a story regarding new allegations against the Kansas Secretary of State, it's worth paying attention. According to the piece, Kobach has accepted money from a hate group and he previously wrote that South African apartheid could be justified in the name of political stability. Kobach is vehemently denying both charges, but it is the Romney campaign that should be answering questions about the piece.

"that South African apartheid could be justified in the name of political stability."

That's shameful. We would also do well to remember that Ronald "Starwars" Raygun and Maggie Thatcher both supported apartheid during their tenures in office.

    USC,

Wasn't Reagan the architect of the original amnesty? I highly doubt he was racist in any way.

Also his comments on AIDS victims (and the related barring of them from visitiing the USA) were equally shameful:

I dont think I will take Mitt Romney very seriously on his skilled immigration stance....

    http://calcuttatube.com/mitt-romney-will-hire-more-skilled-immigrants-on-h1b-visa-and-offer-green-card/158112/

He has changed his position too often and if he has to reneg on this promise to win the nomination, he will. And Kobach being his advisor does not inspire confidence. Kobach probably only wants to admit white actors and fashion models into this country.

I think as soon as Obama creates an ad saying that KK will likely be in charge of ICE in Romney administration, Latinos will turn to Obama. It's quite scary, actually.

I am sure the Super PAC is already cranking up the ideas for the ads.... He has pin himself down in a bad spot by association, Romney!!

    You must have missed this:

Huffman confirmed that this was the passage he referred to in "We're With Nobody" when he wrote that Kobach had written in defense of apartheid.

But it appears that Kobach's words were indeed taken out of context. Kobach was citing the opinion of others who believed apartheid would lead to stability, but went on to point out that "many [businesses] gradually concluded after witnessing racial unrest that apartheid was unable to guarantee stability."

"In that quote I am describing the views held by others, not views that I would hold," Kobach told me. "I'm presenting that point of view and then suggesting why it's wrong."

"It would be ridiculous to think that the Harvard Center for International Affairs would give its award to a thesis that endorsed apartheid," he added.

    ----

"Even more exciting was that the candidate himself had written that apartheid could be justified in the name of political stability."

Connect the dots, people. This was published by the notorious Harvard Center for International Affairs, part of a sinister network with Harvard University at the center pulling the strings.

For once, Jack seems to be right. But well, a broken clock also is right twice a day...
In any case, just the association of Romney with Korbach is going to drive Latinos to Obama. If Romney were smart, he would ditch Korbach ASAP.
That's of course not gonna happen, since he has to keep the Tea-Party people around Santorum at bay. I have seen this scenario here in CA, in the last elections for governor. In the Republican primaries, Meg Whitman has to go anti-immigrant to fend off her opponent. That came back to bite her in the general elections (it didn't help her that being "tough as nails" on immigration was exposed as hypocrisy when she scrambled to find an "excuse" for having an illegal nanny for years...)

I think this will be the equivalent to the swift boat scandal for Romney as long as he remain associated with Kobach, given that the Obama campaign can not coordinate with Super PACS. One can not hold them accountable as to how the Super PAC chooses to tell the story about Koback and his past statements or associations..... all thanks to Citizens United get a spoon full of your own soup yumm!!!

Slowly but surely the "We love legal Immigrants we are just against Illegal Immigration is not ringing so true" It seems that the new Pi?ata of the Antis is Legal Immigration.

"For all those folks that love the Legal v. Illegal argument, welcome to their world!!!"

Sadly, that kind of argument has come from legal immigrants as well. Lots of legal immigrants were against the CIR, because it would help illegals.
This was always a very short-sighted argument, and the antis indeed don't want any immigration.

If there were no illegal immigrants they find the next scapegoat...legal immigrants and then other minorities starting with the perpetual foreigners, the Asian Americans. This has happened in other countries ranging from the UK to Singapore. The longer the debate on illegal immigration, less the energy to focus on legal immigration not withstanding bigoted organizations such as FAIR, Numbers USA and Population Stabilization Racists! So, I say thank God for Illegal Immigrants so that Kobach can waste all his time focusing on them!

The first video has a nice touch with the "get your papers or get out" guy telling "shut your face" to his own girlfriend/wife/lady. I always wonder about the backstory on the people who say stupid hateful things. There is always something that would make a reasonable person doubt about judgement of haters.

    Holding Immigrants Hostage

Schupak: Didn't the Democrats push immigration reform a year ago?

DeMell: Not really. The Democrats had majorities in both houses, and I don't believe they couldn't pressure a couple of Republican Senators to make it happen. They waited until the Republicans were about to take over and then made a show of it for the audience.

Schupak: So who really wants immigration reform?

DeMell: It seems that all the major players would say that they want it. I would say that no one does. Each player has a separate agenda and is holding the immigrant community hostage to further their ends.

Both major parties are split on the area of immigration reform. Both want the restrictionists and the immigrant community to believe that they are on their side. Pro-business Republicans want an increasingly international labor force, while restrictionist Republicans want greater enforcement. Ethnic Democrat party supporters call for amnesty in the name of comprehensive immigration reform, while pro-union Democrats fear that their members might be displaced by immigrant workers. Those pro-union Democrats have been very effective in complicating the visa process for undocumented workers
