GAO Pans USCIS Transformation Efforts

Rate this Entry

Transformation is the self-designated term for USCIS' efforts to move its processes online. A lot of the ideas are good, but many are worrying and the process by which they've been implementing the changes have garnered a lot of criticism from stakeholders who receive information on what USCIS is planning but cannot realistically be called collaborators in the process.

Now those efforts are the subject of a harsh report from the General Accounting Office which accuses the agency of mismanaging nearly $2 billion in funds designed to underwrite automation efforts. Nextgov reports on the findings and also tells the very troubling story of a senior USCIS official who tried to blow the whistle but ended up pushed out as a result.

    Greg,

You deal with this agency as part of your job day in day out . I can only imagine what you would go thru sometimes.

And yet USCIS will be able to manage having visa allotment radically altered retroactively in mid-year if HR3012 passes. Ha Ha, good one.

That does not mean that country quotas are good in this day and age.
