Greg Siskind on Immigration Law and Policy

Stock on the HALT Act

Rating: 2 votes, 5.00 average.

My friend Margaret Stock testified yesterday on an aspect of the HALT Act, the bill's sponsors would rather have you not notice. The bill would effectively rescind the recent ICE memorandum which allows government attorneys discretion not to deport people where public policy reasons suggest using resources on others is wise. Margaret reminded members of the House Immigration Subcommittee would create a host of consequences that most would largely find unpalatable. For example, the option of paroling in someone to donate an organ to a US citizen in need would no longer be possible. Or the option of paroling in a baby whose parents have died in order to live with his American grandparents. Read Margaret's compelling testimony here.
