Let me guess...Ronil Hira is opposing efforts to increase skilled immigration. Too bad, the authority on skilled migration and its impact on patenting and innovation, Professor Keith Maskus, is not on the list and neither is Professor Paula Stephan...goes to say that what you know does not is who you know and who makes the most noise!

Who can forget Bill Gates' hearing few years back, advocating h1b increase or limitless visas. And what happened after his hearing? Congress took notice and made life hell for all h1b holders to the point where companies find it easier to move job abroad than to deal with immigration issues. It is a nightmare to get visa approvals or stamping at USCIS/Consulates.

I know legitimate people are having a hard time even getting their H1B re-stamped and have been made to wait as long as 6 months in their home countries. This clearly shows the inner motive - that is ..leave leave leave the states and don't show up..economy or no economy..skilled or un-skilled doesn't matter as their is no logic..It is time that immigrants should realize that they are not welcome here anymore - whtever the reason may be..swallow the pill..have the self respect to move on...elsewhere.

Ronil Hira is not an economist and is not qualified to talk about skilled immigration. When he opens his mouth he talks nothing but nonsense. Despite warning from Microsoft that they will move jobs abroad, Hira still insists that one less immigrant means one more job for an American and the wages will go up. He needs to grow up and look around him before he talks nonsense like he did before the US Senate. People like Professor Keith Maskus of the University of Colorado are more qualified to testify about the impact of skilled immigration. The other person is Professor Gordon Hanson of the University of California, San Diego. Obviously they do not make the cut because squeaky wheel like Ron Hira get the most attention...but the Senators should remember that there is another English saying...empty vessels make more noise!

The biggest source of skilled migration to the US is the marriage visa....a staggering large number of spouses have a college education!
