ICE Raiding a Texas Worksite

Rate this Entry

A Texas television station is reporting that an Odessa, Texas construction site is being raided right now and that 44 workers have been arrested. DHS Secretary Napolitano has stated that worksite raids would not take place and instead employers of illegally present immigrants would be targeted via I-9 and similar investigations. Either DHS has changed its policy or local ICE officials are disobeying headquarters (which woudn't be the first time).

I do not think they are disobeying they are just talking out of both sides on this one......

I think this is awesome! They are going after the root cause of the illegal immigration problem - unethical employers. Without jobs, a lot of illegal immigrants will self deport. Those who decide to stay on in spite of this can be granted amnesty after 5 years.

    Sid states the following
"I think this is awesome! They are going after the root cause of the illegal immigration problem - unethical employers. Without jobs, a lot of illegal immigrants will self deport. Those who decide to stay on in spite of this can be granted amnesty after 5 years."

Seems that this individual doesn't have a single clue of how the system works or why "unethical" employers decide to hire people whose legal status is dubious. Moreover, it is really disturbing the fact the Sid appears to be celebrating ICE's raid (ignorance at its best); perhaps this individual feels "safe" because his legal status is not an issue, however he should be truly concern that unemployment in the US is getting worst everyday (the rate is already above 20%) and things will not improve in any foreseeable future...in most cases unemployment insurance ONLY helps to pay rent and basic utilities (it is fair to assume that Sid qualifies for these benefits).

Wondering who's going to replace those workers...Americans? Legal residents? They could take those jobs but wages will remain the same -most likely below the average pay, no health benefits or retirement programs. In summary, the law of unintended consequences.
