Why is anyone giving Tancredo any time of day?

Some how I can see the fireworks here but neither side will concede anything....kinda like in Washington. I guess it would be interesting to watch but .....that's it. Tancrado and Kobach will stick to their talking points just like republicans always do and ignore the facts and relevant stats....while the other 2 could inundate them with facts and important info their only answer will be "it's amnesty". And those are your advance highlights.

From the pages of today's WSJ:

"We would not have become a global superpower without opening our doors to immigrants--and we cannot long remain one without continuing that practice."

So who is this yokel? Only one of the smartest billionaires, one who invented an entire industry. Guess who?

This is billed as an Oxford/Cambridge style debate. Having Tancredo/Kobach darken this debate is an assault on this type of debate format.

Bloomberg is a high immigration utopian and a low(er) immigration doomsayer. Environmentalists against high immigration and population growth are also accused of doomsaying. The difference is that the environmental case against high immigration and population growth is based on science. Bloomberg is more faith-based. Immigration is like a religion to him which leads to beliefs like it being a cure-all and that our current (low to him) immigration level amounts to "national suicide". His latest is "letting immigrants come in as long as they agreed to go to Detroit and live there for five or ten years. Start businesses, take jobs, whatever." Whatever, Mike.

That does not make him an expert on immigration policy (which is complex). His view of immigration appears to be entirely economic and from the perspective of what the "business community" wants. Immigration policy should not just be about what they want. The idea of entrepreneurial immigration is reasonable but he doesn't advocate reforming the category of immigration which is currently taking up the bulk of the numbers, thus undermining his vision. The broad amnesty he favors also wouldn't tilt toward the "engineers, scientists and other skilled professionals who invent new products". Neither would their chain migration. Interestingly, he only gives one sentence to the unskilled "guest worker" concept he favors.

An assault? What do you mean?

Obviously, you are not a native New Yorker. He speaks from his observations and experiences.

Immigrants have re-vitalized many communities in NYC that were so dangerous that you could mugged simply by walking on the street.

Examples? Main Street, Flushing in 1980 was populated by drug addicts and gangsters and boarded up, graffiti decorated properties, today, it is a thriving community and NYC's second Chinatown and some of the highest property prices and sparkling new buildings. Lexington Avenue (in the low 30s) in Manhattan was (as late as 1990) full of street walkers, today it is thriving, having become a hub for Little India. You might choose to ridicule his comments but they are based on life and reality.

May be you are rich...not me...as far as I am concerned, economy matters...it is the only thing that matters!

President Barack Obama's administration opposes the appeal as it says that the executive branch has sole authority over the US passport issue in the case.
