UNAUTHORIZED IMMIGRANTS PAID $11 BILLION IN TAXES LAST YEAR; GE PAID NON

Rate this Entry

The antis regularly say that unathorized immigrants get a range of public benefits but don't pay any taxes. Not so. They're paying $8.4 billion a year in sales taxes and $1.2 billion in income taxes. And they don't get most public benefits. They get public schools for their kids and emergency rooms can't turn them away. That's pretty much it.

In the mean time, a company that earned $14 billion in profits last year paid zero taxes.

As soon as the Dollar collapses -check the price of Gold as the best indicator for this upcoming event- ordinary citizens in the US will desperately beg for any solution, specially the so-called "Baby Boomers" (the biggest segment of the populace). This generation of Americans know very well that their retirement benefits (specifically Social Security) largely depend on the contributions made by the active workforce, thus legalizing undocumented immigrants is a logical step to follow - they will be heavily taxed.

Besides that, it shouldn't be a surprise to witness that after the collapse of the US economy (people must start accepting this painful reality), a new order will emerge in which immigration will simply become an administrative process dictated by international guidelines. For example, Mexican and Canadians nationals living in the United States won't have the necessity of adjusting their immigration status, since they will be entitled to work in this country just by showing their national documents.

As stated many times in the past, President Obama will issue an Executive Order granting some sort of legal protection to millions of undocumented immigrants living in the United States based on certain prerequisites and requirements: most likely a renewable work permit (government benefits will be denied to those people at this point) while mandating these individuals to register in DHS database and the Selective Service System as well. Moreover, this presidential decree will facilitate other immigrant groups to expedite and upgrade their current legal status.

Watch for signals that will accelerate this event (Gold Spot Price 1509.35 USD by the time this comment is posted)

"As stated many times in the past, President Obama will issue an Executive Order granting some sort..."..blah blah

I don't think that Obama will do anything of that sort in this term. If nothing get passed, he may do it only when he is re-elected - that to just before the end of his 2nd term - may be in 2015 or 2016.

Till then..every 6 months - "I am deeply committed to compr. immi. reform. We (repubs and dems) should all work together." - LOL.
wait for another 6 months and you hear the same lines!!!

Their children do--an inconvenient fact to anti-enforcement groups like Immigration Policy Center. That's a big part of the total cost which has to be included if you want to have credibility.

    Immigration Policy Center:

Income tax contributions by the unauthorized population are less comparable to other populations because many unauthorized immigrants work "off the books" and income taxes are not automatically withheld from their paychecks. ITEP conservatively estimates that 50 percent of unauthorized immigrants are paying income taxes.

    -------

How could it be even close to 50%? The overall percentage of FILERS who owe no income tax has been reported to be as high as 47%. The illegal alien population is disproportionately lower income which would mean an even lower percentage than the average who owe nothing. The figure would be reduced further by the disproportionate amount of illegal aliens who work "off the books" and don't file at all.

Even though this is the case, there are still lots of immigrants wanting to try their luck for better living.

That would get balanced out by the people that file using Tax ID to get their child credits as well as the people that pay but never file which means the government keeps it all for years.

DEBORAH: You liken Priority Dates to institutionalized racism. Can you explain that?

ENDELMAN: There used to be a law that was passed in 1924 by Congress that was called the National Origins Quota. It was passed after WWI to keep Jews and Catholics from Southern and Eastern Europe from coming to the U.S. It was the law until 1965 when things were made geographically neutral. There used to be laws in the 1880's that lasted until WWII that excluded Chinese from permanently coming to the United States, making them ineligible for citizenship. It was called the Chinese Exclusion Act. Now we don't have those laws, overtly, right now. But, the effect is still the same. The Priority Dates system is such that it is becoming almost a mirage--almost a cruel joke--for people from China and India to hope to immigrate to the U.S. They might as well have a 'do not apply' sign because that is the effect of the Priority Dates system.

What is indeed institutional racism is to allow white fashion models and white movie actors to come in on H1-B and O visas to usurp roles that should be going to Asian Americans, eg. Last Airbender and Movie 21 were based on Asian Americans, but all actors were white, including foreign whites. What is even more galling racism is orgs such as CIS and FAIR know that close to 20,000 of the 65,000 H1-B visas go to mostly white movie actors and fashion models (they know it because Lamar Smith knows) and have little or nothing to say about it...these folks are really depriving Americans of jobs because there are far fewer jobs in this category...however, CIS and FAIR (as well as folks like Jack) have no problem condemning H1-B visas for 30,000 undergrad folks in the STEM field out of eighteen million jobs in America and two million created every year...why? mostly Chinese and Asians. Most Asians and Chinese they see at these firms are US citizens, mostly born here, but I guess anyone who looks Asian is a foreigner and hence must be taking jobs from real Americans (white people)...now folks that is just not institutional racism, but institutionalized racism, period!

George, that statement sums it up, it is the stark reality when it comes to Asians (Indian & Chinese) on skilled immigration.

I will be very satisfied if the DHS publishes H1-B and EMB visas granted by professions...there is this myth that hundreds of thousands of visas are given to Indians and Chinese every year driving down American wages. What is really driving down US wages is jobs going abroad because visas are not granted. I bet you that only 32,000 H1-B visas are granted in technical fields and STEM occupations. The rest as Lamar Smith has clearly stated goes to Hollywood, photographers and fashion houses who want better looking whites to sell their ware to a small but significant racist segment of the white US population. Now why are we encouraging this while Asian Americans and even other white Americans are claiming that they cannot get any role in Hollywood. Tell me which is a larger proportion: 6,000 visas out of 20,000 jobs created in the acting field in the US going to Europeans and Aussies or 32,000 tech jobs out of 2 million created every year? Which one do you think will really drive down wages resulting in higher unemployment for Americans? Why are FAIR, CIS and other racists particularly in Manhattan Institute still whining about 32,000 tech jobs and foreign students at US institutions but not the acting jobs that goes to foreigners? When I call people like Kirkorian and Stein racists, they protest, throw tantrum and get mad..but I tell them, sue me if I am wrong...and no word from them! For most antis it comes down to skin color, changing face of America etc. Why does Gallegly not support the investor visa? Because his area around Glendale and Burbank are the only islands of whites in a see of non-whites in the LA area...Gallegly will say ok to Smith proposal and the investor visa if the majority of the beneficiaries happen to be white...they are not..they happen to be Asian...and I am certain that he does not like Glendale going the way of Cerritos, Arcadia, Walnut or Milbrae. Gretchen Whitney, rated the number one school in the world last year, is mostly Asian or mixed white-Asian kids. It was different in the late 1980s when it was not even on the map regarding excellence. It was mostly white with 15% Asian...now it is 86% Asian or mixed white-Asian super-smart kids. Super smart does not mean much to these folks including Gallegly, King and racists at CIS and FAIR...not interested...instead mixed white-Asian brings them old fears of race mixing...and many of these folks also want a moratorium on immigration, particularly for Asian brides of American men.

And one more thing, now that Obama has released the birth certificates, the birthers will go after his dad...to determine whether he was illegal in this country...someting closer to their heart, repealing the fourteenth amendment...wait for Rand "racist" Paul and David "diaperhead" Vitter to start hearings on this.

George, telling directors who SHOULD be in their movies is akin to telling Bill Gates he SHOULD be hiring Americans. The argument goes both ways.

H1 does not have a racial or per country quota, so there is absolutely no sense in attacking it.

Yeah, but it could do without actors, photographers and fashion models of all colors and stripes.

  18. Greg Siskind's Avatar
George - You're generally on the mark and I understand your sentiment, but it is not true that actors and models are responsible for the shortage of H-1Bs. An actor coming on an H-1B is basically unheard of and the O-1 is almost always the category used. For the models, about 700 use the H-1B category each year, an amount that hardly makes a dent in the total. The problem is we have a quota set in 1990 that is not the right amount for an economy of our size.
  19. George Chell's Avatar
I get your point except the fact that Lamar Smith has listed a long list of professions coming in on H1-B other than engineers and those he says contribute to the economy...and I believed they included entertainers, photographers and my pet peve, fashion models. Yes, we need a higher quota or no quota at all. The H1-Bs without caps should be removed and made into Green Cards without caps. These guys have already proved that they are the best in the field...may be go through O visas...but Green cards would be better for the economy, innovation, etc. Perhaps they need to abolish diversity and those visas should be added to H1-Bs. Apologies for sounding nasty...yes, sometimes I do get carried away! I do stand by charges of racism against antis for not making a stink about fashion models and entertainers and making a stink about engineers and computer specialists!
  20. George Chell's Avatar
It is time that DHS publishes detailed breakdown of professions under the various skilled migrant categories. In fact, we need to force them to do it...it is obvious that it is in the DHS's internal computers!
