SENATE DEMS TO OBAMA: STOP DEPORTING DREAM ACT KIDS

Rate this Entry

22 Democratic Senators are urging President Obama to stop deporting young people who are likely to be eligible for legalization if the DREAM Act passes. The White House has so far rebuffed such requests with the not very believable excuse that it's hands are tied. That's simply not so and the President's executive authority to solve immigration problems Congress is ignoring has been well documented. Hopefully, the pressure will start to pay off.

"That's simply not so and the President's executive authority to solve immigration problems Congress is ignoring has been well documented."

His comments simply confirms that President Obama will issue -pretty soon- an Executive Order granting some sort of legal protection to millions of undocumented immigrants living in the United States based on certain prerequisites and requirements (most likely a renewable work permit).

What they are asking for is not what is known as "prosecutorial discretion". Discretion (duh) requires freedom to make a decision. They aren't asking that certain people subject to removal not be removed on a case-by-case basis; they are asking for an extra-legal blanket protection with the decision process taken away. It's the opposite of discretion. It seems they are trying to disguise how radical their demand is by misusing the term discretion.

As for his reaction to these letters, I'm sure President Obama won't be as blunt as when he told Republicans "Do you think we're stupid?" but might be thinking that very thought.

"While these recommendations address DHS actions, it is clear that the Obama Administration must be more engaged in the implementation of day to day immigration policy. Leadership is needed from both the White House and the front office of DHS to make immigration reform any kind of a reality.
The Administration must acknowledge its executive branch authority to revisit prior policies and reinterpret existing laws, particularly in light of Congress's unwillingness or inability to reform the immigration system. Numerous recommendations exist for changes to the interpretation of existing immigration law that would streamline and improve immigration procedures and extend greater opportunities for benefits. The mantra that the Administration's hands are tied by existing law is not only misleading, but effectively cedes executive branch authority to Congress that it vigorously protects in other contexts."

The above paragraph simply confirms the assertion that President Obama will issue pretty soon an Executive Order granting some sort of legal protection to millions of undocumented immigrants living in the United States based on certain prerequisites and requirements (most likely a renewable work permit while restricting access to government benefits).

Congress has plenary power over immigration. Do the anti-enforcement extremists have ANY respect for that law? Whatever the executive branch attempts to subtly not enforce the law is insufficient to these anti's. The outrageous bar they are setting for the executive branch is clear--nothing short of nullification. Obama is issuing signing statements without batting an eye but even he won't completely ignore immigration law with the defiance and contempt of it expected by the anti's.

Seems that this individual needs to learn more about how the Federal government works ESPECIALLY DURING WAR TIMES...need some help? United States Code Title 50: War and National Defense. The President of the United States has extraordinary powers to govern by DECREE once the nation is AT WAR, meaning issuing Executive Orders and Congress can do little OR NOTHING about that - and that's the law. Maybe Jack should enroll in his community college and take some lessons of American Government.

Barack Obama has already exercised this privilege by authorizing military operations against Libya, specifically invoking the War Powers Act of 1973. He didn't need Congress' authority to declare war and this legal procedure has been effective since September 11th, 2001.

DUE TO NATIONAL SECURITY CONCERNS AND CONGRESS' INABILITY TO PASS AN IMMIGRATION REFORM, President Obama will issue pretty soon an Executive Order granting some sort of legal protection to millions of undocumented immigrants living in the United States based on certain prerequisites and requirements: most likely a renewable work permit while mandating these individuals to register in DHS database and the Selective Service System as well.

McCain, Kyl introduce new border security plan

Here are the ten points in Sen. McCain and Sen. Kyl's Border Security Action Plan:

    1) Deploy up to 6,000 National Guard troops to the United States-Mexico border.
    2) Deploy 5,000 additional Border Patrol agents to the United States-Mexico border by 2016 and Offer Hardship Duty Pay to Border Patrol agents assigned to rural, high-trafficked areas. Provide funding for 500 additional Customs inspectors for the southwest border.

    3) Provide increased funding for Operation Streamline.

    4) Provide increased funding for the Southwest Border Prosecutors Initiative.

    5) Provide increased funding for Operation Stonegarden.

    6) Construct double-layer fencing at needed locations along the United States-Mexico border and replace outdated and ineffective landing-mat fencing along the southwest border.

    7) Increase the number of mobile and other surveillance systems and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) along the United States-Mexico border. Send additional fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters to the United States-Mexico border.

    8) Provide funding for vital radio communications and interoperability between Customs and Border Patrol and state, local, and tribal law enforcement.

    9) Provide funding for additional Border Patrol stations along the southwest border and explore the possibility of creating an additional Border Patrol sector in Arizona. Create six additional permanent Border Patrol Forward Operating Bases and upgrade existing bases.

    10) Complete construction of the planned permanent checkpoint in Arizona. Deploy additional temporary roving checkpoints and increase horse patrols throughout the Tucson Sector

Sounds like more of the deport them all agenda....Kyle is retiring if he can not support some sort of CIR effort at this stage of his career then we may as well continue to wait for 2013.....if they do something then!!! Or may be Kyle is not "factually speaking" about border security, I guess from now on is hard to take this guy at his word!!!!

Frank you keep saying this but just the way DC works and the politics of immigration I truly do not see this ever happening and specially not in an election year. I could see it if Obama does not get a good congress after 2012 and then his last year in office when there is zero risk for him.....maybe but not before. And even then these guys seem to love to think about their legacy and how their names are spoken in history books. You know really important stuff...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House says President Barack Obama plans a meeting Tuesday on immigration reform with several groups and leaders.

The White House says the afternoon meeting will be with a broad group of business, law enforcement, religious, and current and former elected and appointed leaders from across the political spectrum. The statement issued late Monday was attributed to a White House senior official who was not further identified.

The statement said the president planned to discuss the importance of fixing the nation's "broken immigration system" to meet the country's 21st century economic and national security needs.

Some immigration reform advocates have criticized Obama's efforts on immigration reform.

Beppe, If Bush didn't do it, I can't even dream of Obama having the spine to go the executive route. When he launched his reelection campaign it's clear that he is another Chicago politician. What he didn't accomplish in 4 yrs, cannot & will not be able to in the next 4 if reelected that includes immigration. He personally doesn't want skilled immigration. He is an anti in this matter & that's a fact. SG would second that.

I disagree with that he is definitely a Chicago politician and is playing the game of football that is Immigration. But he is a politician after all and will do what is politically expedient for him.... I believe he will do Immigration should he get a second term but if he is stuck with a similar congress as today that would really make it impossible. After the census numbers the republicans are not going to give him a prize of 50 million potential new voters specially since they can not claim the prize themselves, they would rather nobody get the prize. Skilled Immigration is the leverage that Obama can use to bring the business community and get them to produce some republican votes. In the end he knows that skilled immigration is vital for America to compete, to help pay for the deficits as the tend to be higher income earners and he is all about giving back to the community. If people got an education here let America rip the fruit of that education....If he can get the dems back in the majority all around it would be easier to do, if he gets a split congress we are back to where we are today and that will make it a HEAVY load to lift.

Legal and no longer waiting states the following:
"Frank, you post the same thing over and over. That constitutes spamming. I don't know why Greg would not delete your messages, but that what I would do."

It seems that this individual is totally against any governmental action that may help to fix the broken immigration system of this county (specifically giving priority to millions of undocumented immigrants by a presidential decree).
Ignorance is the mother of all social diseases and his comments corroborate that. Apparently Legal and no longer waiting is a foreigner living in the United States with the proper documentation but he (or she) has not acquired the citizen yet. It is strongly recommended for this person to enroll in a community college and take some lessons of American Government in order to comprehend the statements that appear to annoy him/her.
Moreover, Legal and no longer waiting should be more concerned with the ongoing economic outlook of this country instead of displaying his antagonism against any potential measure favorable to undocumented immigrants, since an imminent collapse of the US Dollar will simply accelerate geopolitical-economic-judicial changes never seen in this country before (hint: keep the eye on Gold prices).
It is absolutely ludicrous to see a US legal resident been more preoccupied with an irrelevant citizenship when thousands of native-born Americans are leaving their home country as a result of the current economic upheaval.
