NY LEGISLATOR PROPOSES STATE VERSION OF DREAM ACT

Rate this Entry

The New York Times is reporting that a legislator in the state is proposing a bill that would expand rights and benefits available to people that would likely have been eligible for the DREAM Act had that bill passed in Congress. Among other provisions, the bill would allow such beneficiaries to get drivers licenses, access to state college financial aid (in state tuition is already available under existing law) and the ability to take state jobs. The last item is the one that may draw the most scrutiny as it runs counter to federal law and is probably unconstitutional for the same reason that the new Utah guest visa program is.

I am hoping that states like Utah, NY and CA will put the Supreme Court in a bind...rule in favor of States Rights and the AZ law, we will get states such as Utah, CA and NY also benefitting...rule against it, all AZ passed state laws will be killed and so would the budding laws in other racist states such as Georgia...the sooner these states move the better!
