ALABAMA BILL WOULD MAKE IT A CRIME TO BE OUT OF STATUS

Rate this Entry

This is the same state that brought us George Wallace, Selma, Bull Connor and the Letter from a Birmingham Jail so is this really a shocker?

The states and specially the republicans are going wild west on the Immigrant Community!!! It would be nice to regain the sanity some how....

I hope the GOP keep digging their graves...they started in Wisconsin, perhaps it will continue through other states!

I figure most AL lawmakers have no clue that many people waiting for their green cards are by definition out of status.

    What's all the uproar?

The agenda is very clear: the States are demanding the Federal government to pass an immigration reform ASAP. State lawmakers know very well about the legal constraints of enforcing their own immigration bills due mainly to the principle of National Supremacy; therefore, these types of measures focus on putting pressure to Barack Obama and the US Congress to take action now (paradoxically, all the states DEPEND in one way or another of migrant labor to survive).

The passage of this bill may indeed accelerate President Obama's decision to enact an Executive Order that will give some sort of legal protection to millions of undocumented aliens living in the United States based on certain prerequisites or requirements.

I am tired of reading that an executive order be passed to give illegals some legal protection. I am legal immigrant waiting in line for all these years, paying taxes without any benefits or return, and with a masters. Why should illegals get preference over legals waiting in line. I know the answer that bloggers give: get over it, life is not fair. ohh common come up with a more plausible reason or accept that the legal immigration reform is being held hostage to the bigger immigration reform, which by the way always n always leads to talk about illegal immigration. Time that legals waiting in line are given their due.

SG, the simple answer to your question - from the lawmakers standpoint, you don't need legal status, since you already have one.

    Legal and no longer waiting,
what do you think, when and if they get such a legal status, will their employment opportunities be limited as people in H1-B; where you can only work for 1 employer; can't go to school full-time (technically can, but practically not), can't work per-diem in different places, can't apply to better jobs accepting on citizens and GC holders. I am pretty sure that these restricts won't be there if/when a legal protection is given. So to compare in terms of employment opportunities they will be pretty similar to a GC holder, but definitely better than a H1-B. if that is the case, legals should give up their "legal" status, that way they can prosper better and earlier rather than waiting in line for another 10 yrs.

This is the result of no-action for immigration reform. Each State will now pass bills and try to enforce what they think will pass or get away with.

Time for immigration reform or if that's not possible an Executive order.

    Definitely agree with Frank.

Whatever it is,something needs to be done ASAP. Inaction would result in the USA being divided with some states and counties trying to secede from their home State.

    Time to do something.

Frank may be on to something here the executive order could be the jolt CIR needs....

SG, your complaint is completely irrelevant to the decision makers. Do you have legal status? Yes, end of story. If you want to be considered in the other category, you can always give up your legal status, there is no question about it.

People who are opposed to radical Islam and defend Judeo-Christian America should treat other Christians with decency whether they are illegally present or not...is not the issue..People truly afraid of the radicals will welcome Hispanics illegal or otherwise because they are Christians like them....

These people cherry pick on all issues, religion, constitution, freedom, government intrusion, immigration....what ever supports their message and pleases the base. Is all about keeping their base engaged and motivated, that is all they care about is a constant marketing effort.
