ARIZONA EXTREMIST BILLS COULD LEAD TO EXPANDED BOYCOTT

Rate this Entry

There's a lot of evidence that SB1070 has cost the state dearly in economic development. Wait until a birthright citizenship bill passes and even bigger boycott initiatives are launched.

In a similar vein, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels got a warning from his former employer Eli Lilly that his signing an Arizona-style bill could seriously damage Indiana employers' ability to recruit top talent.

It's hard to believe sane Arizonans are letting demagogues like Pearce and Arpaio destroy their economic future. 20 years ago similar extremism over the Martin Luther King National Holiday cost the state the Super Bowl and gave its image a black idea. And that was small potatoes compared to SB1070 which is said to have cost the state perhaps $150 million in less than a year.

The problem here are not the politicians, instead the entire blame must be placed on the American populace for being so uneducated and ignorant every time they elect their representatives. In fact, ordinary Americans clearly fit in one of Leo Strauss' (*) categorization of society: The Vulgar Many.

"The Vulgar Many, are lovers of wealth and pleasure. They are selfish, slothful, and indolent. They can be inspired to rise above their brutish existence only by fear of impending death or catastrophe."

It is clear that in times of emergency, there will always be a scapegoat for all the problems of this nation (in this case undocumented immigrants become the prefect target). Moreover, the passage of this state bill may indeed accelerate President Obama's decision to enact an Executive Order that will give some sort of legal protection to millions of undocumented aliens living in the United States based on certain prerequisites or requirements.

As long as ordinary Americans remain in such brutish state, it will be very easy for any skilled sophist to manipulate and subdue these savages.

Poultry company president: Georgia's anti-immigration climate has made Latino workers scarce
    10:50 am February 23, 2011, by jgalloway

Last night, a Senate committee held a hearing on immigration in Gainesville.

One of north Georgia's top businessmen - and former chairman of the National Chicken Council -addressed the lawmakers. A passage from the Gainesville Times:

Tom Hensley, president of poultry company Fieldale Farms Corp. that has locations in North Georgia, told the Senate Special Committee on Immigration and Georgia's Economy that 287(g) already had a detrimental effect on the poultry industry in Hall County that would only be worsened by statewide legislation.

Hensley said despite using measures to ensure the company hired documented workers, the anti-immigrant climate in the state has driven the Latino workers he depended on away from his business.

"We were 67 percent Hispanic in 2004. Our turnover was 25 percent. Our workers (compensation) cost was $50,000 a month. Our health care cost for the whole year was $8 million. It was about that time that the federal, state and local governments let it be known that these folks are not welcome," Hensley said.

"Fast forward to 2010, we're about 33 percent Hispanic now. Our turnover is 75 percent. Workers comp costs are $150,000 a month. Our health care last year was $20 million. Those are staggering numbers, but that's the economic reality.

"We need comprehensive immigration reform in this country. It has to be a federal program, not the state ... you can't have 50 different laws in 50 different states. I implore you, don't pass any more laws."

I wonder how many antis buy iPhones and ipads made in China under poor working conditions and again made in China!!

As I have frequently said, if they dont have illegals to worry about they will go after legals as they are doing in Denmark...they are making it very hard for foreign spouses of Danish citizens to move into the country...

This is indeed the Arizona vision for America...at least that of Jan Brewer, Ed Pearce and Joe Arapio!
