CHIPOTLE PROBE EXPANDS

Rating: 3 votes, 5.00 average.

I was pretty enthusiastic when the news hit that Memphis was getting its first Chipotle. The restaurant is opening in a few weeks and it's right around the corner. Definitely good news for burrito fans like myself.

Unfortunately, while the 1100-restaurant chain has a lot of fans, the folks at ICE are apparently not any of them. The company's 50 stores in Minnesota have been hit hard with an I-9 audit that has resulted in hundreds of firings. And the Wall Street Journal is now reporting that 60 more restaurants in Virginia and DC are under investigation.

According to my sources, these kinds of probes are only the start, and are here to stay. Moving forward there is going to be a zero tolerance on companies hiring undocumented workers. It's part of a two part strategy to take control of the immigration issue. The second part is comprehensive immigration reform that is currently in the works. Some draconian measures include deportation within 24hrs if found to violate immigration laws at point of entry or at the border. Also there is very bad news for would be visa over stayers and undocumented immigrants. Current visa over stayers are likely to get better deal than those who entered the country illegally.

Greg, you've advocated I-9 audit based enforcement in the past over EVerify and Arizona style laws. Please don't tell me that this change of heart is over a burrito.

Maybe this is the only way businesses and large corporations will give the republicans their new marching orders!!! After all they are the sticklers for the "rule of law" only when it comes to immigration...

The republicans are already casting their Latino sellouts to try to split the hispanic vote and try to achieve the 40% that George W got.... http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm?uuid=FC1E852E-3EE3-488D-88C1-F2732BBE9512

Yes, Republicans are gaga over the type people they would have loved to not have citizenship after their 14th ammendment repeal. Somebody should Jindal how he feels about not ever be able to run for President.

This would ensure failure as it would prevent the dems from claiming a political victory they want and the HC definitely would not support it....
