REID PROMISES VOTE ON DREAM ACT IN LAME DUCK

Rate this Entry

This was reported late last week, but in case you have not heard about it, Harry Reid promised he'll bring the DREAM Act up for a vote again right after the election. Given the expected loss of many DREAM Act supporters after tomorrow's election, the lame duck session may be the last chance for a long time to pass that law. Whether enough additional members of Congress feel more freedom to vote their conscience (four are needed in the Senate) remains to be seen, but let's hope for the best.

The stalemate would continue in the Congress, with immigration being shoved under the rug. The only hope I see is in 2013 if Obama is reelected with the Dems regaining control of the Senate & House. The economy won't rebound even under the Republicans for another 2 yrs.

the extension of 245(i) was approuved by a repubblican congress, if i am not mistaken. Do you think that there is any chanche?

Anyway, today is the last day of a dem congress, 4 years and nothing has happened. Not even a piecemeal approach, shame of all the Dems, shame on them, shame on Guttierez, shame on Reid (but at least he tried) and most of them, shame on Pelosi.

Most likely not going to happen. Perhaps shoved under the rug in the Senate, with adverse legislation at least at the committee level in the House similar to what they did in 1995. The economy will improve some but I am afraid the Reid-Angle race will be repeated at the national scene with Obama-Palin or Obama-Huckabee...a bitter divisive race similar to Bush-Gore 2000!

For the believers in the republicans I am sure that with Lamar Smith at the helm of immigration and his side kick King on the house side lots will happen... keep on believing!!! These guys love immigrants...

They only love white people and only certain whites...from Northern Europe...Tancredo should take note!

Oh one more thing...they would rather send jobs abroad and have draconian cuts in social security, than have non-white immigrants working and living next to them!

    Another voice,
i am sure that Smith and King are terrible, but tell me what the dems did in 4 years? nothing, but at least with the Rep we know what we will get.
I remember 4 years ago, i was so excited and so sure that this nightmare will be over soon, and today i am pretty depressed.

    Any legislation highly unlikely.

@beepe exactly you know what you get the same things we got with the dems nothing..... + perhaps some more lip-service on enforcement, de-humanization and criminalization of immigrants!!! That sounds great to me....

So he's making empty promises on his way out. Big surprise. In a way I'm hoping for a GOP takeover so we can have a big pro-immigrant backlash in 2012 and beyond. Sooner or later demographics will send them home.

NO. If you read all the diff. articles about the same topic what he was saying is that he'll bring the DREAM Act to a vote in the lameduck session regardless if he wins or looses in the election. He's not promising it will pass either since that is out of his hands but at least he'll try.

I guess, if he looses it is because it is Hispanics and other people that does not comprehend and misinterprets what he is trying to say and does not know the consequences if Sharron Angle wins over him. And yet he'll still try to have it done for them in the lameduck session even if he looses.
