Hope AILA makes use of the lame duck session and push whatever seems plausible or realistic for immigration. Does not matter if CIR or piece-meal legislations - something needs to be done in the lameduck session ASAP. Delaying it afterwards or waiting for the next Congress may be risky.

He is a good guy, but his argument is not strong, in my opinion. He needs to talk about fixing the status of those who are already here and allowing future immigrants to come legally, so the same thing does not happen again. He needs to plainly say that criminalizing work is wrong, and that the only reason people have to come/stay illegally is because there is is no way to do it legally for the vast majority of them.

Not impressed with your friend, Greg.

First, he said that Lou Dobbs did not comply with the law.

He stated that "everybody on both sides of this issue is in favor of rigorous enforcement of the law" which is simply laughable. Everybody?! Just from the front page of your blog, see Luis Guiterrez and his opposition to deportation (and there's a multitude of other examples known to anyone who follows the issue even casually). Heck, plenty of activists are against ANY enforcement and some don't even try to hide it! So who does Leopold think he's fooling saying everybody wants rigorous enforcement?

He stated that ALL studies indicate "a fix to the immigration system" would create nearly a million new jobs but the GDP number he threw out sounded like that from the Center For American Progress and Chicano Studies professor Ra?l Hinojosa-Ojeda. But Leopold didn't say 'a study', he didn't say 'studies', he said 'ALL studies'.
