SEIU UNION AND PROGRESSIVE ACTIVISTS TO BLAST CONGRESS ON MONDAY

Rate this Entry

A major development and this could be the most widespread grassroots pro-immigration effort to date. The SEIU has a strong record for supporting immigration reform as does the Daily Kos blog. Glad to see they're teaming up.

    about time.

I hope they will raise voice for visa-recapture, I think this is our last best chance.

    Hope their efforts do help.

I am not sure why Sen. Menendez though wants to introduce another CIR again. Seems counterproductive to the DREAM Act effort and other possible piece-meal legislations that many are presuming to be introduced during the lameduck session. Also, people also seems to be forgetting about that there is already a recently passed immigration-related piece-meal bill in the form of the Emergency Border Security Supplemental Appropriation Act of 2010 last August. For all intents and purposes, that should be considered the 1st piece-meal immigration bill and not the DREAM Act(if ever it passes).

Also, agree that a visa recapture should be considered as well either as an amendment to the appropriations bill next week or to be done in the lameduck session.

It's about time for a visa recapture and other bills for legal immigrants like those for nurses and PTs.

Hope this help as well: http://americasvoiceonline.org/blog/entry/military_experts_explain_why_dream_act_is_needed/

They should be emphasizing this in my opinion. Let's see how the Republicans and the right-wing media handle this. They would be alienating the military if they go against DREAM act and look even them says that it fits to the Defense bill. Who are they to say that it doesn't? And like I said, who's doing the politics here?

DREAM Act should be revised to at least 4 yrs of college or 2 yrs of military service. An associate degree for a path to citizenship c'mon.

@Jim, I agree with you. Why isn't Ried attaching the visa recapture bill or the ENSRA bill alongwith the DREAM Act to the defense appropriations bill. They would definitely come against DREAM but I would like to know their stand on the other two. You can go after the Cans if they vote against it by potraying them as being negative to leagals as well as the illeagals (as we are already aware of).

Exactly!! It actually does a much better job exposing them as a party of No compared to the DREAM Act.

Anyhow, I think the die has already been cast for the DREAM Act. Reid will definitely try attaching it next week and whether it passes or not he would have achieved his intention.

The military coming out wit their support I think gives hope for those who are pro DREAM Act as the Republicans can't make the excuse anymore of attaching the DREAM Act to the Defense bill is the wrong way to proceed.

DREAM Act advocates should be emphasizing that next week.

More on the Military's support: http://ndn.org/blog/2010/09/democrats-fight-hispanics-gop-continues-threaten-block-dream-act

Hope McCain and other flip-floppers on the DREAM Act and immigration reform gets exposed some more and stop hiding on the lame excuse of it's not germane to the Defence bill. The military coming out for the support should be the much needed slap to the face for McCain and other Republicans. If they want to save face, they should flip-flop again or at the very least keep quiet from now on. Better yet, the Republicans should now come out to support a visa recapture bill and ENSRA (nurses and PTs)and demand that they will only support the DREAM Act if the Dems agree to support visa recapture and ENSRA in return. That should save the Republicans from being labeled some more that they are really anti-immigrants (legal or illegal). That is if they have common sense.

    This is very interesting: http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/as-primaries-end-positive-signs-for-the-gop-but-voters-remain-unpredictable

It seems it's not a done deal yet in the House. Boener should hold his horses. He's not Speaker yet.

As for Senate Dems, I don't think Coons is going to be over confident over O'Donnel. The lessons from what Scott Brown did in Mass. is still fresh. Reid isn't dead yet as well.

McCain and other Repubs are now getting it on all sides. Now Lady Gaga is engaging them over DADT.

    Reid is winning, so far.

Full four years from no when the economy is growing fast, there will be a shortage of American job candidates due to severe budget cuts...however, if corporations want to hire foreigners, the antis will say that we should train Americans first....then we need to ask them where they were when the state education bugets were bieng cut....

Many of the SEIU members do not like illegal immigration at all.
The support is from the big Union bosses.
