NYT EDITORIAL: REVAMP LEGAL IMMIGRATION SYSTEM WITH AUCTIONS

Rate this Entry

A little out of the box thinking. There are some useful ideas here even if there are many practical questions on how the plan would work. For one, is a highest bidder system necessarily the best indicator of which employers are most deserving of securing visas. Should a school system desperate for math teachers lose out on securing a visa just because it has a much more limited budget than a major corporation? I'd suggest perhaps looking at a program like this running as a separate track in the immigration system rather than necessarily replacing what we have. Of course, we can also focus on fixing problems with the existing system as well.

Analysis by politico on low chances of CIR, post Nov. It is very high time to get moving on piecemeal and get it done.

I dont think anything will move in the next congress..I mean anything ranging from finance, to health to immigration. At the end of the day , the GOP will have a 5-15 seat majority in the House and the Dems a one to two seat majority in the senate and the result will be be gridlock.

As far as the Orrenius article is concerned, she is a smart woman..know her from her works on immigration. We need to implement her suggestions for those foreigners who will buy housing stock worth over one million dollars, and give them green card. Otherwise, we will never solve the housing problem in this country!

One more thing..racists Lamar Smith and Steve King would rather see San Francisco like gas line explosions to reduce housing surplus rather than see a bunch of Chinese millionaire immigrants next door!

Even Napolitano is frustrated (or it seems).

There will be a GOP House. They will do nasty things to the Hispanics, not just illegals...the economy will recover by the middle of next year and Obama will use the House GOP to win the re-election!

No...no...the Democrats will keep the House and pick up a 60th seat in the Senate. Even more so if a Tea Partier secures the Can Senate nomination in Delaware today.

    USC,

You surely jest about the House part and the Senate too except may be the Delaware part!

Looks like Sen. Reid is bringing Dream act to floor

Lets see if he really has "cojones" to do it .

Well at this point out of the box or inside box thinking on Immigration would be good... as long a someone is actually THINKING!!!

I like USC's thinking.... may be wishful thinking, but the Tea baggers can spoilt the party for the cans for sure!!!

Will it just be DREAM act or any additional legal immigration bill as well?

I am not sure if house will flip without senate changing hands.

Looking at the polling numbers it is a distinct possibility. O'Donnell winning today sinks most chances of GOP taking the Senate. However, it does not affect the House races.

If there is ever a piecemeal development, then DREAM is going to be first and it is going to go alone. After that, other bills may be possible. Don't be hypocrites - if you are for piecemeal, don't try to turn every bill into a CIR by wanting to stuff it with everything and anything.

Absolutely at this point you have to go for baby steps, looks like DREAM will be first, hopefully other will follow... the business community should speak with their pockets and demand some of the legal immigration bills as they support candidates on both sides!! That is the only language politicians understand well.
