As long as politicians and bureaucrats focus on illegals they will not come after legals. In Australia, illegal immigration is not a major problem, and hence both the political parties are going after legals either through tightening or reduction in numbers. As a result there has been a literal collapse of immigration to Australia.

I wonder if the would release the charges on these people, I am all for capturing the bad apples but some times to claim a victory the focus on people with minor traffic violation just to pump up the stats.

That is not smart this is a country that is doing great post crisis and the want to destroy their own success on some cheap demagoguery...I am sure they will learn their lesson, just look at Japan one of the main reasons the continue to struggle after 10 + years of downturn is that their population has aged and there is no immigration to Japan. Immigrants provide the growth and added demand just like in the US...

Immigration is what kept Australia out of the recession during this crisis. Depsite studies by the Reserve Bank of Australia and its own treasury the lesson has been lost on its leaders. Now it is hiding behind the environment. Too many people in Australia, they say. I think immigration was a deciding factor and people could not decide and hence a hung parliament. Attacks on Asian students and pronouncements by the country's leaders led to a thiry percent decline in foreign student enrollments....not admissions, but enrollments...admissions declined by a whopping 80% this year and more to follow next. At the same time foreign student population in the US and Canada surge 30%. US foreign student population is at an all time high of nearly 650,000. Australia had a good economy, but people got greedy and xeonphobic...I was there in 2007 and some Aussies bluntly told me that they liked Asian investment but not Asians...now they will pay with a hung parliament and a nation in political turmoil as the two leaders dig in their heals.

This is an opportunity and warning for both US and Canada. For both countries this may be a boon as more foreign students come to our shores instead of going to Australia. For the US particularly, this is a warning...if we dont have illegals the likes of Arapaio, Brewer, Pearce and the t-party folks will go after legal immigrants, particularly the South and East Asians or Asian Americans in general. So as far as they spend all their precious resources fighting the illegals the legal perons are safe. If we ever solve the illegal problem, the next stop for the antis would be legals. Yes, I am glad the focus is on illegals and only the illegals.

George, I commend you for your views & support in favor of legal/skilled immigration. I wish the lawmakers & the majority of US citizens thought the same way like you.

Be thankful that as long as they focus on illegals they wont be curbing legal immigration. So, whether we like it or not, illegals do serve a very useful purpose. The lesson from Australia is very clear..there are enough bigoted people who will come after legal immigration if there is no illegal immigration to keep them occupied.

    Interesting article .

"The recent passage of health care reform legislation offers some improvement to primary-care doctors, but doctors see it as insufficient. "The new legislation adds a 10% bonus to primary-care physicians' Medicare reimbursement salaries. But this is nowhere near enough. We need to see a 30% to 50% increase in salaries overall to make any real change in the system," says Dr. Lori Heim, president of the AAFP."

With debt and deficits who is going to pay for the salary increase? The Insurance corporations, the hospitals, anti-immigration groups, the public? The insurance corporations says that at the rate of $1,200 a year for medical check-up, they wont pay other than for five yearly visits. In Singapore, it costs $500 a check-up and my insurance will pay. So I go there because my insurance will pay. The international Org I work for is thinking seriously about getting employees to get their check-up abroad because they cannot afford it anymore. Any takers?

Why bring in the refugees & asylum seekers if US can't provide for them. I think in this matter US is a true socialist country.

"Why bring in the refugees & asylum seekers if US can't provide for them. I think in this matter US is a true socialist country."

Cant agree more, but I think US needs to show to the WORLD that they do care about displaced people around the world, but they (US) forget to realize the broken system within.

NO doubt, people have misused ASYLUM visas, I have seen the case myself, but the fact EB's have to wait decades in comparison to these asylum seekers are not fair, again I am not against bringing people displace and/or in danger in their hometown but what about tax paying immigrants, where do they fit?

This weekend vote in Australia brought the hung Parliament, I see a rise in HUNG PARLIAMENT, from UK, AUS (1st after 70 years) not to forget IRAQ, looks like there is a pattern, when ever people start talking about social issues that be IMMIGRATION, Healthcare, RETIREMENT benefits people tend to get divided.

The headline caught my attention this morning "Hung parliament is a win for technology and regions " http://www.theaustralian.com.au/australian-it/hung-parliament-is-a-win-for-technology-and-regions/story-e6frgakx-1225909095945 but we will have to wait and see what this really means.

The problem is Aussies are not just against refugees. They are against all immigrants particularly the Asian variety. As I mentioned earlier, one Aussie woman bluntly told me that they ahve no problem with Asian money, but they dont want to be around Asians. Australia is doing well. For them to even campaign on reducing skilled immigrants smacks of racism hiding behind the environment and population growth. Singapore is more densely populated than Australia and its infrastructure is not falling apart. Then again for a long time the country followed a white Australia policy..it is very difficult for the leopard to change its spots. It is very difficult for the Aussies and especially the white Aussie women and girls (in my experience) to shed their anti-Asian and anti-non-white bigotry! Today Australia is a political mess and I wont be surprised if they have another election by early 2012!

    Just like I said...

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/aug/22/immigration-cap-business-jobs

It is evident that these are people with little or no brains...

"But advocates of the cap disagree. Sir Andrew Green, chair of MigrationWatch UK - a thinktank in favour of reducing immigration sharply - said: ""If we make it easy for employers to take skills off the shelf from abroad they have no incentive to train British workers," he added.

Damian Green, the minister for immigration, said the government planned to take net migration down to the levels of the 1990s and said the limit on economic migrants from outside Europe was one measure to help achieve it.

"Businesses are going to have to reduce their reliance on migrant workers as this has done nothing to help the millions of unemployed," he added. The limit will be put in place next year."

Actually, the reality is that for every skilled worker denied entry, a British worker is not trained and jobs are exported abroad. Employers will stop complaining and start moving jobs abroad.

Asian-Americans in the Ivy League: A Portrait of Privilege and Discrimination

"Not surprisingly, the passage of "209" led to a political backlash and resentment against Asian-Americans -- from whites, but particularly from African-Americans and Hispanics, who saw their numbers plunge at these institutions."

From Whites? They fought to remove race criteria in the name of merit! Now that merit rules they find they are not the best after all and want to roll it back...this is the history of race in a nutshell :-)

Whites want to have it both ways. When it comes to blacks and Hispanics only scores matter, when it comes to competition from Asians scores alone should not matter and then there is our Senator from my great state, James Webb who thinks Asians benefit from Affirmative Action....

    http://www2.starexponent.com/news/2010/jul/28/how_i_see_it_webb_gambling_with_remarks_on_race-ar-458461/

"Webb says programs that were a response in the 1960s to centuries-old, government-sanctioned prejudice against blacks have morphed into protections for all people of color, including newly arrived Asian and Latin immigrants, moving "affirmative action away from remediation and toward discrimination, this time against whites.""

In UK, Australia and NZ they like Asian money but dont want Asians around them. The only reason white Americans dont come after Asian Americans is not because the latter dont rock the boat but because they are too busy fighting illegals, Hispanics and moslems including being retarded enough to chase after a black guy because he "looks" moslem...
