SHERIFF JOE'S JURISDICTION ONLY AREA WHERE CRIME IS UP IN ARIZONA

Rate this Entry
Thanks to reader Adi for the link. Huffington Post reports on a data compiled by America's Voice showing crime in Arizona dropping dramatically across the state for most of the last decade EXCEPT for the area controlled by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Which goes to show you that facts matter very little to Arizonans buying into the antis arguments.

Check this link, it's an interesting read with a scathing remark against Obama (read last sentence 3rd paragraph).

I wonder if his strategy is "the worse, the better", meaning that by taking an already over-restrictive system to the next level he is trying to prove that "just enforcing the laws" is not a viable strategy to deal with immigration. In this case, he is waiting for the outry from businesses to push Republicans to vote for the reform. Maybe.

How much of an outcry does he need? There wont be much... just jobs moving to other destinations

I think you are on point but it is a risky strategy, Obama got 10 million votes from hispanics, this strategy is not making him friends for 2012 with those voters. Which means that unless he can pass something before 2012 they may not vote for him again... He is not in an easy position!!!

I think your concerns are correct. He may get more outcry once the economy rebounds, but as you noticed, the jobs may just go where the labor is plentiful, and the votes may disappear, too.

Actually, Obama reminds me of my old boss, who was a blessing and a curse to work for. Excellent judgement, but not enough courage to fight for the right thing. Not enough until somebody confronts his spin and smacks him over the head (unfortunately, that was my role). Maybe the election will smack him in the right place.

I agree.... at this point, I think Obama looks bad to all of us that support immigration. But I am not sure that the current reality really reflects his stand on the issue, politics get in the way and perception becomes reality which by the way is everything in politics. It just sees that if things continue the current course things will be a lot harder. Back to that strategy... I mean why waste time convincing the skeptics, they will never give you credit for anything, specially since most polls reflect that people think there should be solution to Immigration.

    Then there were 9:

P.S. 9 out of 50 is a minority by any measure. I am proud to say that the Nation's foremost State has passed a measure condemning the State of Arizona:

No wonder they call it the Empire State!

You got that right. Look at stimulus, health reform, financial reform. They didn't budge regardless what was offered. Obama lost public option for nothing. He could have easily passed public option if he really wanted to. Fin reform is watered down bill. Stimulus was not big enough to match the problem and we are seeing effects now. Just look at unemployment benefits being cut off by republicans. State deficits are not considered by republicans. Republicans are not going to help in anything. Obama is not going to get any help from them. He needs to find one or two to support in senate and develop leadership to unite all democrats. I am after 59 you just need one more to pass any bill. If he cannot unite democrats and get one republican, then all of blame lies with him. But as we all know he is not interested in passing reform but is offering lip service at regular intervals to compensate for his "appetite" comment. They need to pass piecemeal legislations and put people out of their misery.

Interesting. While there could, of course, be other explanations, it doesn't bode well for Arpaio's signature strategy of maximum arrests in lieu of community policing and undercover work.
