OBAMA MAKING NOISE ON IMMIGRATION

Rate this Entry

President Obama is acting like he cares about passing a major immigration bill. He met earlier this week with pro-immigration groups to press on the need for Congress to quickly take up a reform bill. Of course, he's said this before - usually followed by comments from senior Administration people basically saying the President really didn't mean THIS year. Right now, the main plan of the White House is opposing the Arizona
immigration law in court. Nice, but this is hardly taking responsibility
for solving our immigration program.

The President also met yesterday with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.Obama reportedly said he's about to take a "new and aggressive" approach to getting reform done. He told CHC members that he'll give a very important speech on immigration tomorrow. So we'll see if there really is anything other than lip service to report.

Sorry to sound like a cynic, but right now it looks like the White House is looking to try and keep Hispanic voters from ruining the Democrats' prospects in November but without actually doing anything on immigration.

Argh... Enough already. They should just be honest w/ everyone and say that CIR won't happen so that we can get on with piece-meal legislations already.

However, let's wait for his speech and what this new "aggressive" approach would be. Hoping for the best but not expecting anything.

If this is a "new and aggressive approach" as stated then then it's definitely not CIR.

Maybe this could be the rumors about the WH issuing an executive order or providing a TPS or temporary work authorization??

Hope he doesn't forget about the DREAM Act, visa recapture, nursing shortage relief bill and so forth.

Not going to happen. We are trapped in a vicious circle..low skilled migration...jobs chase would be migrants to Asia..higher unemployment in the US...more restriction on skilled migrants and the vicious cycle will continue for a while yet! In the UK it is all but certain to continue!

I am hoping its not a blame game on republicans in that speech. I am actually very tired of everything being blamed on republicans. Majority in house, almost super majority in senate, democrat in white house, liberal supreme court. Gosh, what else do you need??

I think this is lip service and a photo op with electoral colors all over!!!!

    "liberal supreme court"

The same SCOTUS that ruled in Bore v Gore that votes did not need to be counted? And that this decision could not be used as a precedent for any other case? Cans control the court 5-4.

    I would say,
fool me once shame on you,
fool me twice shame on me,
fool me thrice I am an idiot.

I mean this speech has clear election posturing written on it. I wanna know if they really think that latinos are idiots?

We'll know if he really wants to do anything this year if he supports passing the DREAM Act and/or AgJobs this year.
