IMMIGRATION ADVOCATES WARY OF RAHM EMMANUEL

Rate this Entry
A year ago, Rahm Emmanuel tried to convince President Obama not to pursue health care legislation. It would be too divisive. Now he's making the same case on immigration and it is upsetting many pro-immigration Democrats. The problem is that President Obama was elected as an agent for change, not simply to be a status quo President who would mind the store until someone bolder comes along. I've been impressed that President Obama has indicated he would be content to be a one term President if that meant he could leave with major accomplishments under his belt. Let's hope his promises on immigration fall in to the category of accomplishments he has in mind.

I do not think Obama has immigration reform on his agenda re-election. He will again drum up the immigration reform rhetoric in 2012 for gaining the Hispanic votes. He is just another politician plain & simple albeit with great oratorial skills.

As influential as Mr. Emanuel may be, the president is a big boy and the buck ultimately stops with him...

If I were him, I rather have just 1 term but do all the necessary and lasting changes. As it is, I think he has already done more than what Bush has done in 8 years.

Jim, it seems Rahm Emanuel dictates what's to be done not Obama, Pelosi, or Reid one exception being HCR. Instead of locking in the Hispanic votes for decades Obama is non-commital on CIR. He will need them in 2012 hope he realizes that.

    Greg,

Do you know anything positive came out of this conference? http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2010/05/141927.htm

EB Visa was in the agenda, just wondering if its for real or just the lip service LOL.

Nothing as far as I've heard.

The loss of House but not the senat will get Rahm Immanuel fired....and they need to kick his butt!
