BUT MY MOM HAS NO PAPERS

Rating: 2 votes, 5.00 average.

In an extraordinary exchange at an event that is usually just a photo op, First Lady Michelle Obama fielded a question from a second grader that really reminds us of the fact that the millions of people in the US working without status today are real people with real families. While the antis choose to dehumanize these folks by portraying them as criminals and parasites, this little girl reminds us that we're talking about people who are faced with terrible choices in life - living in utter poverty in an unstable homeland or living in the shadows in a wealthy democratic country that hopefully offers the potential for a decent future for your children (and forget about acknowledging the fact that they make enormous contributions economically and culturally to our country).

I've found the comments in the news sites carrying this story fascinating. Do the most awful people in the country sit around all day searching for stories like this to spew their venom?

you finally understand, there is so many racist in this country...the majority is like the poeple commenting the news. Now i am worried for the mother of that poor girl...

What that girl's mother said has validity. Since Obama came into power, deportations have increased, ICE raids have increased, stupid interpretations of h1b laws have increased, deportation of LEGAL h1b immigrants have started. Lets put the blame where it belongs. Democrats have full majority in house and almost super majority in senate barring one vote. If they cannot garner one republican vote then there is something wrong with democratic party. On second thought there is nothing wrong with them, they are doing what politicians do best, false promises. Atleast under Bush it was brought to discussion and failed to gather any support. Under Obama its nothing but lip service. What did Joe Wilson say again??

Just by saying that they need republican support, are they gonna get it? During HCR they did all back room deals along with Louisiana purchase, Medicare for all in Nebraska (?) and who knows what else!!! Now its just few lines on TV, "we cannot do it without republican support" or " there is no appetite in congress for it" and what not. Oh well.

Joe Wilson was right we were wrong!!!

Obama is hiding behind the "I need republicans theme", he knows that the republicans have not helped him so far, they do not care to help him in the future and the least of all care about doing Immigration reform. As far as the republicans are concerned they want him to be a one term president, the prospect of providing him with lots of new future voters or at least giving hispanics a good reason to come out and vote is nonsense. Too bad that Obama gets to look bad in comparison to Bush, but so far it is just that Lip Service...... CIR did not happened with large democratic majorities, is not going to happen with a more evenly split congress or a republican controlled congress.

Of course, they do. What do you expect from a bunch of losers.

Ya right. Is he the victim really? So democratic president, democratic house and almost super majority in senate is the victim of not being able to pass legislations? And blame lies on republicans? Do you even remember how long was the mention about immigration during state of the union address? Did that not tell you about his priorities?

And don't forget that it is his administration who has increased crack down on both legal and illegal immigration, while paying lip service.

With this majority the Dems have been spineless in the Senate, Harry Reid needs to be shown the door (exit most likely Nov.) Chuck Schumer would make a better majority leader & he is all for CIR. Where is the fin reg & climate bill????
  10. Another Voice's Avatar
The mexican press has reported that the leader of the Mexican Senate is asking and encouraging all Mexican-Americans and naturalized citizens of Mexico to vote democrat in November to help Obama pass CIR.

What next? Fin reform is close to done, is it climate or CIR?

Is it me? Out of the mouths of babe's...This child is illegally here with her family and attending school? For some reason this is allowed? Give us your weak..poor..blah blah blah. I am all for the melting pot that is AMERICA but you must get legal status don't just show up and start draining the system that many hard working American's pay into. THE REAL ISSUE IS THE DRAIN ON OUR SYSTEMS THAT IS HAPPENING AT ALL LEVELS..SCHOOLS, POLICE, MEDICAL ETC. After 3 Presidents and we only have a few feet of fence built on the border with Mexico? Seems like "they" want to bankrupt our system.

I read a rumor somewhere that most of the USCIS adjudicators are members of FAIR and CIS , Just wondering if any one has any more information on this....

"Is it me?" Yes it is you!!!! it would be hard to have an intelligent conversation with someone like you, given the arguments you present here. Go back to school inform your self and then come back here and post something that merits a discussion.....

It was recently studied that most white people don't experience what is called mirroring towards people of darker skin color. Mirroring is where your brain synapses fire as if you were doing the action that you watch someone else doing. This points to a level of detachment which causes most American whites to not experience the sympathetic response to the suffering of darker skinned people and foreigners that they would to another white person (because sympathy is caused by mirroring someone else's position). I think this goes very far in explaining the discourse in this country and why some of the opinions portrayed seem cruel. It is because many people are physically "incapable" for feeling sympathy towards these people. Legality of the issue is kind of secondary because this country has a history of having to change its laws in terms of civil rights, etc...
