POLLS SHOW AMERICANS STILL WANT REFORM

Rate this Entry
Despite a severe recession, Americans still largely support immigration reform efforts that include tough enforcement measures, dealing with future flows of immigrants, and legalizing the undocumented population. According to Politico, two new polls are out showing solid support for comprehensive immigration reform. The New York Times reports a legalization-centered solution with 64% support.

On January 20, 2009 polls showed over 60% of the voters wanted Health Reform...but when the debate started they changed their opinion. One thing sure about immigration is that most people world over are selfish..they would like to work abroad on fat salaries but they dont like to reciprocate!

George, the people do not like the current HCR bill which was signed into law. Immigration is an entirely different issue with strong enforcement measures & practical sensible solutions for reform the public should not have a problem. But now it seems Obama doesn't have an appetite for CIR.
The mid term results would probably make him lose his appetite forever.

Politicians will say that they need a polls that shows 98%+ in order to feel comfortable moving on CIR, otherwise impossible!!!

Even 98% of support may not be enough..once the debate starts, it is the end of the story..as in the case of health care reform..let them try tax reform and see what happens...it will be a lot worse than CIR.

The GOP is becoming more and more racist for its own good. Had it try to push legal immigration, particularly skilled immigration as a counter proposal to "amnesty" they would have split the immigrant community...but they are too deluded and keep appealing to white skin worshipping pagans.

After the recent incident in New York some people want to close the borders. I tell them we need a pilot program to close the borders first to see whether people like it. Let us start with Arizona..a majority want closed borders over there. I am willing to oblige. Next week I will be on my way to Asia...Singapore, China, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Will be back by mid June. I will try and convince folks not to visit Arizona..no foreigners should visit Arizona, period. I will try to explain to the Chinese visiting the US Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo to visit Hawaii or CA, but not Arizona....not only because of the boycott but because over 50% dont want foreigners around and want to close the borders. If these foreigners bite, let us see what happens..let us see whether the good citizens of Arizona like it. If they like it, I am willing to try it in Nevada, Colorado, Utah and Texas. If they dont like it, they will have to change the law they passed. We need to give them a choice. Yes time to close the borders...time to close Arizona's borders to the rest of the world.

If you look closely at those polls one third didn't like it, because it didn't go far enough and other one third were fine with it.

Worse part was, they didn't get any republican but did compromise on their basis public option agenda.

Typical...as I said, Brits are pretty selfish...they have no objections to Brits working abroad, but ask to work in their country, all hell breaks loose...

Obama provides lip service on CIR at Cinco De Mayo celebrations at the WH.
