He should certainly bring it to the floor ASAP and fast-track it.

The rallies will get worse day by day if CIR is not passed to undercut the diff. State bills.

Reid is not sure anymore. Now he is back tracking. Phew some weird 180 degree turns here.

The seem all over the place with this thing, the probably do not have the votes and are making political calculations as to the consequences of success or failure of CIR or if to bring it up at all.... my guess is once the legal challenges start to have a debilitating or freezing effect on the AZ law the whole CIR urgency will lose momentum. Reid and McCain are acting for pure political survival, the republicans are already a damage brand to hispanics therefore they will choose to go for the short term political gain and leave the long term damage to their party image to others to figure out.

Proposition 187 made California a permanent blue state. The Republicans must be fools to forget such a simple history lesson.

That's a big IF. If we be objective for a while... if any of you have watched the countless debates, the other side really do think it is not unconstitutional and that it can stand legal challenge.

Jim, this AZ laws goes beyond California Proposition 187, and Propo 187 was overturned on constitutional grounds. The legal expert they quote is incorrect - the law does create new crimes under immigration umbrella, and a state law cannot do it.

Have you read the whole AZ bill? I haven't, so I'll leave that to them.

I strongly disagree! At least on "reasonable suspicion of being in the country illegally" part..but before it is all said and done, one can only hope that the illegals and legals get the hell out of Arizona. there are over one million legals and illegals and they add two electoral votes to Arizona, thus empowering racist whites including Jan Brewer...Perhaps if the illegals had gone to NM or CA, these racist whites will have two less electoral votes to play with and the non-racist folks in NM or CA may have two more!

This current draft is more of an enforcement bill to appease the Repubs & hoping to get a couple on board. The trio can take the House bill & make modifications to it, everyone talks about reducing the EB backlog, with nothing done in the end.

The Gutierrez bill though very liberal has provisions to tackle the EB backlog.
