Tells you how much the GOP has to pander to the white skin worshipping pagans in Arizona. No self respecting minority should visit Arizona or patronize businesses located in Arizona including USAirways.

Aren't Arizona laws (if they are enacted) similar to US immigration laws and laws governing ICE? What about focus of USCIS on Indian immigrant IT workers?

What are the demographics of the constituency that McCain is hoping will elect him? Aren't there a significant %age of hispanic-Americans in AZ? What will be their reaction to this in the election?

He has flip flop in so many issues lately that nobody will support him, the right wingers do not believe in him and the indies and moderate republicans do not believe in him anymore, I think coming November he is a goner!! To bad for the Maverick, sorry he is not the Maverick anymore... who ever he is these days!!!

It's obvious McCain has lost his " bearings".

He's a goner. He's making the very same mistakes he made during his campaign.

At this rate, Harry Reid seems to have more chances than him on getting re-elected.

I simply don't understand why the big noise about this new Arizona bill! Police are here to enforce laws and they have every right to ensure that people here are present legally.

I am myself a legal immigrant and fully support the Arizona Bill! and hope every state enacts a similar bill.

Tar, so when the police start stopping you every other day asking for documents, and then checking them for 30 mins on end, you will be ok with it? Given that you have done NOTHING wrong and there was no reason to stop you other than harrass you? And you will be OK that taxpayers money will go toward senseless harassement of all citizens and not on solving crimes?

McCain may be pandering furiously, but he's going to be reelected. His opponent in the Republican primary is a troglodyte, and while a lot of the Republicans don't like McCain, they have enough sense to know that JD Hayworth is worse.

The bill is wrong because it will lead to racial profiling and discriminatory application. Many US citizens and permanent residents in Arizona are Hispanic, and there's no way to know a person's citizenship or status from looking at them. The "reasonable suspicion" figleaf will be a pretext for cops and individuals to harass people of color, simply because they look like they might be illegal. Will they ask any person with an accent for proof of citizenship?

You're just talking about the Republican primaries. As for the Nov. elections?? No chance a democratic opponent can beat McCain? Ever heard of what Scot Brown did in Mass?

A few points may help your curiosity and understanding.

1.- This is not Nazi Germany therefore you need motive for the police to pull someone over for questioning or to ask for identity papers. The Arizona law basically says if you look " different" that is good enough to ask for identification, sort of what the SS used to do during WWII.

2.- Only the Federal Government has the jurisdiction to enforce Immigration laws, it has to do with the law of the land. Not the states unless you have expressed permission such as the 287(g) program or safe communities, mostly targets criminal aliens or so they say....

3.- The police need to make society feel like they are an ally to fight crime, this law in essence makes part of the community fear the police, that is not going to help them do their job or get much cooperation, which in turn will not make the communities safer.

4.- many immigrants (12 million or so come to mind)for many reasons too long to name are unable to come here legally, yet they rather come here illegally to put food on the table for their families, just as many other have done in this country for generations, ask the italians, Polish, Irish!! You must be new in this country but it has something to do with the fabric that makes the country and its diversity.

Hopefully this can help the light bulb in your head go off, and I hope you move to AZ and live happily ever after there, but don't leave home w/o your GC you could be in trouble!!!

Oh man. GOP will elect people like Rush and Glenn to be their leaders. Rather than criticising policies they are criticising private lives. No wonder Florida governer is running as independent rather than republican. What is this party of Lincoln turning into?

John McCain: Illegal immigrants are intentionally causing car accidents

McCain told Bill O'Reilly that while he'd be "very sorry" if a Hispanic person suffered the indignity of racial profiling, the law would punish illegal wrongdoers.

"It's the people whose homes and property are being violated," he said. "It's the drive-by that -- the drivers of cars with illegals in it that are intentionally causing accidents on the freeway."

---- There is no need to compare with Nazi Germany. In Nazi-times they would put you in gas chambers... they are certainly not going to do that. Here the purpose is enforcement of immigration law. Simple.

2.- Only the Federal Government has the jurisdiction to enforce Immigration laws, it has to do with the law of the land. Not the states unless you have expressed permission such as the 287(g) program or safe communities, mostly targets criminal aliens or so they say....

---- This is a legal issue not a moral one. Fight it out in the courts. We will see if the Arizona Bill- if signed stands the rigor of appeals.

3.- The police need to make society feel like they are an ally to fight crime, this law in essence makes part of the community fear the police, that is not going to help them do their job or get much cooperation, which in turn will not make the communities safer.

---- I will so feel safe and not feel fearful if the start asking people for driver's licenses. There can be skillful ways in checking legal status. You don't have to imagine them asking you for your ID when you are trying new clothes in a mall.

4.- many immigrants (12 million or so come to mind)for many reasons too long to name are unable to come here legally, yet they rather come here illegally to put food on the table for their families, just as many other have done in this country for generations, ask the italians, Polish, Irish!! ---- I so agree on what you say, immigrants like me are the soul of the country... but remember most of the Italians, Polish and Irish came thro' Ellis Island legally.

--- If coming into this country legally is so difficult, why not think of making the immigration laws a bit saner instead of supporting those who think it is their right to break the law ?

Hopefully this can help the light bulb in your head go off, and I hope you move to AZ and live happily ever after there, but don't leave home w/o your GC you could be in trouble!!!

--- I won't forget. I carry it anyways. Moreover, the Bill requires only a valid driver's license

"In Nazi-times they would put you in gas chambers... they are certainly not going to do that. Here the purpose is enforcement of immigration law. Simple."

Here, they will put you and your family, including children in a prison, without a right for a lawyer or knowing when your detention is going to end.

And don't forget that Nazi Germany first stripped Jews of their citizenship, declared them illegally present, and then went on to hunt them. You may see a defeinite paralelle, if you open your eyes.

"This is a legal issue not a moral one."

Just like Rosa Parks not moving to the end of bus was a legal issue, and just like Civil War was over a small legal issue of slavery. Almost EVERY legal issue is a moral one. This law is obviously racially motivated, will lead to racial profiling, and unconstitutional to boot.

"I will so feel safe and not feel fearful if the start asking people for driver's licenses."

You obviously have not seen an immigration raid. They will NOT just start asking for driver licenses. They will start asking about citizenship, and you (yes -- YOU) will have to answer that you are not a citizen, and then you will have to prove your status, right there on the spot, and most likely YOU will be taken into their office and will have to fill out a ton of documents while they check your status with the USCIS. And if you are in AOS, and your I-94 expired, you will look just as good as illegal to them, and they WILL detain you. And if you are a Hispanic person with an accent who is a citizen and does not have papers, they may decide to take you into detention. Bottom line - nobody in this country has the right to question you about anything unless you obviously have done something wrong or there is a warrant on your arrest. That's what the Constitution is for.

"but remember most of the Italians, Polish and Irish came thro' Ellis Island legally."

When there were no quotas and immigration was unregulated, many did come legally, and many came illegally (read about history of immigration). Now, with a huge 5,000 annual green card quota for unskilled workers, how many do you think can come legally? Today's law is very different, and most Amercians would not be able to immigrate to the US legally. The last three Presidents would not. Are you getting the message?

"If coming into this country legally is so difficult, why not think of making the immigration laws a bit saner instead of supporting those who think it is their right to break the law ?"

That's what CIR is for. Nobody is saying that breaking the law is good, but when someone is fighting for their livelihood, you can't deny that the punishment they have to endure is not commensurate with their misdeeds.

"Moreover, the Bill requires only a valid driver's license "

If you are a US citizen. Which you are not. Don't forget.
