ARIZONA PASSES NATION'S TOUGHEST ANTI-IMMIGRATION LAW

And there's plenty of competition. Essentially, the bill makes the entire state a 287(g) state without the supervision of Department of Homeland Security. The bill's constitutionality seems extremely dubious, but we'll have to wait on the courts and I feel certain that a suit will be filed within days of the governor signing. Here is a summary of the bill's provisions.

As an aside, I was struck by the "Profiles in Courage" passage from the LA Times coverage of the bill:

[Governor] Brewer, a Republican, has not taken a public stance on the bill. She replaced Janet Napolitano,
a Democrat who became President Obama's Homeland Security chief last
year. Napolitano had vetoed similar bills in the past. Brewer faces a
primary challenge next month; most observers expect her to sign the
measure.

Some Republicans have privately complained about the bill, which Pearce
has been pushing for several years, but were loath to vote against it
in an election year.

I wonder how will Arizona's economy would be after a couple of years if this actually holds.

Maybe another Iceland just like what Mr. George Chell has been saying.

If you want to know what will happen to AZ, just look at Cleveland area that lost 30% of its population over the last 20 years. They now raise whole neighborhoods of vacant houses to make parks so that junkies and squatters don't root there.

Let the law stay so they realize the importance of immigrants with the economy & community. Then they can unanimously decide on CIR when AZ is on the brink of total collapse.

So if local police wants powers of ICE and enforce laws, it is racism? In essence, ICE (and federal govt) is racist too?

IMO, either federal govt is racist as well or just Arizona state govt is not racist.

I agree with Jim and hope George Chell will give same or rather explanatory comments.

More like Soviet style communism complete with Arapaio style KGB style thugs....and add to that the new Berlin Wall south of the border...and we all know what happened to the Soviet Union...and the tea baggers get mad at me for calling them commie pinkos.

or may I say...the first building block of Communist America...the Union of American Socialist Republics (UASR).

Following wishes of majority of people is not communism. Its pure democracy. Why are people of the state not getting any of the blame? They are the ones forcing lawmakers to make such laws. There is no communism here.

In India there is a state called Kerala which is run by communists...but these are elected commies...not very different from the elected commies of Arizona who masquerade as conservatives. We had a similar situation in apartheid South Africa..all rules...fencing off black and white areas, no economic interaction between whites and blacks etc. The whites supported these policies...but that does not mean these policies are not KGB style communism.

    "Profiles in Courage"

Courtesy of the NY Times, here are several "Profiles in Courage":

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/15/us/politics/15poll.html?hp

    On the President:

"He's a socialist. And to tell you the truth I think he's a Muslim and trying to head us in that direction, I don't care what he says. He's been in office over a year and can't find a church to go to. That doesn't say much for him."

    On Junior:

"The percentage holding a favorable opinion of former president George W. Bush -- at 57 percent -- almost exactly matches the percentage in the general public that holds an unfavorable view."

    On the poor:

"But I think there is a welfare class that lives for having children and receiving payment from the government for having those children. They have no incentive to do any better because they have been conditioned into it."

    On hypocrisy:

Others defended being on Social Security while fighting big government by saying they had paid into the system, so deserved the benefits.

Others could not explain the contradiction.

"I guess I want smaller government and my Social Security," said Jodine White, 62, of Rocklin, Calif. "I didn't look at it from the perspective of losing things I need. I think I've changed my mind."

Tea partiers are one reason why detractors of America say that a less powerful and debt ridden America is better for the world.

"In essence, ICE (and federal govt) is racist too?"

According to some, immigration law is inherently racist. Thus, ICE by definition is racist. Even if an 'immigration rights activist' doesn't believe that doctrine and just has a selfish interest in opposing immigration law, race can still be an effective tactic to discredit immigration law, its enforcement, and its supporters.

Most likely the ICE agents are..like many things in the government it is a good old boy's network!

Tea partiers are like mules...if let to run free in a market place, they would jump from one building to the other. The hind legs of the mules are tied to prevent them from doing this. The US debt is like the string that ties the hind legs of the tea partiers...they can talk all they want, but if they act on what they think they will destroy themselves and America with it...and it is in the best interest of other Americans to note this.

Moderates will be leaving AZ and hard-liners staying and attract more people like them to go to AZ. That includes trigger-happy people that would even purposely buy a house near the border and continuously monitor 'tresspassers' and try and shoot those attempting to 'tresspass'.

Then after all the raids, I wonder what will happen to their economy? I'm also pretty sure that AZ would also be now last on the list of Filipino nurses as they know that they can be mistaken as Mexicans. They shouldn't count on UK and Australian nurses as well. They are all going to Canada.

No economy, poor HC due to staff shortages and weak housing. What's there left? Rely on the Phoenix Suns for their economy? BTW, Amare Stoudemire is likely to get out of Phoenix next season as well.
