LATINO GROUPS TO SCORE MEMBERS OF CONGRESS ON IMMIGRATION ISSUES

Rate this Entry

Good. Members of Congress who think Latino voters aren't paying attention and they can vote anti-immigrant to keep Tea Party activists happy may want to rethink that strategy. In related news. America's Voice has released poll data showing Latino voters are not energized and aren't planning on coming out in big numbers in November unless they seem some positive action on immigration reform. From America's Voice:

Latino Decisions researcher and Stanford University professor Dr. Gary Segura highlighted and analyzed the findings: "Among all the key constituents in the 2008 Obama victory, Latino voters appear to be among the least enthusiastic about voting in the 2010 midterm," he said. The poll found that just 49% of Latino registered voters who say they are very enthusiastic about voting, an all time low. In the 2006 mid-terms, 60% of Latinos turned out, and their self-reported enthusiasm prior to the election was 77%.

Dr. Segura's conclusion? "For Latinos, there will have to be a genuine attempt on the part of the administration and Democrats in Congress to act on immigration. Even if it fails, an honest effort (and the inevitable, ugly, GOP response) will help close the yawning enthusiasm gap between Latinos of 2010 and Latinos of 2006. And should it pass, as it ought to, the rewards will be palpable."

If Obama doesn't show the energy & effort he had for HCR I would like to see a complete Dems rout in the mid term elections. He has failed to keep up with his promise from the campaign. HCR was his priority only b'cos he wanted it as his legacy.

As Biden rightly whispered HCR is definitely a BFD for Obama, come November I hope the Latinos would remind him that CIR is a BFD for them.

"The score card is part of a broad national campaign to increase pressure on Congress to pass immigration reform legislation that would legalize the nation's 10.5 million undocumented immigrants, grant more family visas, provide temporary foreign workers where needed and step up enforcement against unauthorized immigration."

Yeah, these people are really for that last part, LOL.

Oh yes. They should vote for their traditional allies - The Republicans. CIR is the top domestic priority for Republicans.

Latino groups to release voting score card on immigration issues

Congreso members stopped short of urging an ouster of those members, saying the interim score card was meant to alert the public to their representatives' voting records and allow a chance for change before the November election.

"This is a giant warning signal that many in Congress and the Senate are out of step with the interests of their districts," said Antonio Gonzalez of the William C. Velasquez Institute, a public policy organization that helped compile the data.

"Either they change their behavior or the constituents will change their representatives," Gonzalez said.

Steele has to clean up dirty laundry within the RNC, I do not see anything coming from him as far as immigration is concerned.

As frustrating as it may be I don't think this would get the job done in immigration, but based on people not going out to vote that may come true, but you have to be carful what you wish for..... unless you like those Bush billboards "miss me yet?"

I would like to see a 40-42 seat loss, enough to give Boehner a very miniscule majority if it means, Rahm Immanuel gets canned. Immanuel helped Dems win in 2006, but he is being more of an albatross!
