TEA PARTY LEADER CRITICIZES ANTI-IMMIGRATION REPUBLICANS

Rate this Entry

Dick Armey, former Republican House Majority Leader and one of the national leaders of the Tea Party activists, had some surprising comments on immigration. From the Arizona Daily Star:

Republicans are alienating Hispanic voters with their rhetoric on the immigration issue, former House Majority Leader Dick Armey said Monday.

'These guys are trying to blow it,' Armey, a Texas Republican who now works closely with Tea Party activists, said at a National Press Club luncheon.

Armey, one of the creators of the 'Contract with America' that launched the 1994 Republican revolution, says the party needs to be more careful when it discusses immigration reform - which he strongly supports. Armey said the issue needs to be handled with 'sensitivity.'

Armey also called Tom Tancredo "destructive" and said the US government's dysfunctional immigration system is to blame for our current mess and not Hispanics.

    I really don't know why the GOP still can't get it that they are indeed alienating these folks. Still need more election cycles to get it through their heads?

    Maybe they think that if the Dems passes HC that it will automatically get majority on both Houses of Congress in the Nov. elections

    The Dems seems to be a little bit confident that they can defend the merits of HCR rather than go to the elections with nothing to show for.

    Clear cut differences between the white skin worshipping pagans and the true conservative Christians. Traditionally the protestants have opposed non-white immigration and hence Tancredo's opposition is not surprising...despite his Italian ancestry he attends an Evangelical church in Littleton..a church I have visitied and did not see much Christianity other than grand standing with fire and brimstone sermons. One would think the Catholics would want more Hispanic folks in their flock during the time of declining membership. However, some prominent catholics are among the forefront of opposition to all non-white immigration...Buchanan and O'Reilly come to mind and of course Hannity. More of white skin worshipping paganism by these three...not catholicism. Unfortunately it all comes down to the favorite American pastime...race.

    This is not the first time I have seen this nonsense. Washington Times is full of anti-Asian editors and writers who are complain all the time about American men taking Asian brides..at least in private..but their bosses are Asian..the moonies...and it does not make much sense.

    Finally, of course as I had mentioned in a previous post Armey lost his chance right after 9/11. They were demagoging all moslems..why did n't he come out and push for CIR and frame it in a Catholic/Christian Vs Moslem context and isolate folks such as Tancredo? Something tells me that neither Armey nor Rove are genuine here. They are all trying to hang on to the white skin worshipping pagan wing of the GOP who masquerade as Christians.

    Don't we all LOVE a good cleaning lady...

    ++++++++++++++

    BOSTON, March 16 (UPI) -- A top official with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is on trial for encouraging an illegal immigrant to stay in the country, court records showed.

    Lorraine Henderson, a regional director of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, was suspended without pay from her position after her potentially incriminating statements were picked up by a recording device worn by her Brazilian housekeeper, prosecutors told a court in Boston Monday, the Boston Globe reported.

    Fabiana Bittencourt secretly cooperated with authorities as she cleaned Henderson's condominium in Salem for several years, the newspaper said.

    "Lorraine Henderson violated the same immigration law that she had taken an oath to uphold,'' Assistant U.S. Attorney Diane C. Freniere told federal court jurors.

    Francis J. DiMento, Henderson's lawyer, said Henderson broke no laws as federal immigration law allows hiring illegal immigrants as intermittent domestic employees.

    Henderson, however, is charged with encouraging an illegal immigrant to remain in the United States, which is a felony punishable by a maximum sentence of five years, unless the crime was committed for financial gain, which ups the maximum sentence to 10 years, Freniere said.

    Greg,

    What do you make of the Mehta-Endelman proposal to Director Mayorkas 2 weeks ago? They penned a proposal on how it's actually possible for USCIS to stop counting dependents in the EB quota by adopting a simple policy change.

    If we can do this, then this will make a lot of priority dates current WITHOUT any CIR this year.

    Will you please support this Greg?

    Hello Greg,

    There is certainly a lot of blame to go around why there has not been immigration reform. Either way, it is a necessity and the problem will not simply go away or disappear. Hopefully, after the health care reform, Congress will start he Immigration Reform.

    Trend06 - All are very good ideas. Of course, we're assuming that USCIS is interested in being pro-immigration and I don't think that is the case for many at the agency. That might change if the White House made it clear that it wanted USCIS to interpret its rules and the law in ways that were more friendly to immigrants, but I'm not holding my breath.

    ICE does not listen to orders from Napolitano regarding raids. It took a long time to control them and I heard two ice agents use foul language about Napolitano on the metro...you really dont want to hear what they said. Do you really expect the USCIS to listen to Obama? USCIS is the government version of CIS...who would rather see jobs go abroad than immigrants move into this country.

    @trend06,

    Wow. I hope the new USCIS director strongly considers that proposal. I don't see why not that can't be done.

    A couple of years ago, they changed how they interpreted how excess visa numbers from EB1 and EB2 should be distributed for it to be distributed horizontally before it can fall down to EB3 when all these years, excess visa numbers falls from EB1 and EB2 down directly to EB3.

    I request Greg's expert opinion on this claim.

    That is a common sense solution, don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out. But does anyone think the folks at USCIS have any. The system would not be screwed up if they had any of the common. Maybe their assumption is everyone on EB is/have to be single & stay single. They won't adopt any common sense solutions.
