GRAHAM: PASS HEALTH CARE AND WE'LL KILL IMMIGRATION REFORM

Rate this Entry

I've been impressed by Senator Graham's willingness to help move forward immigration reform, but this is really pathetic.

Graham reported on his meeting today with President Obama and Senator Schumer. Most of it sounds good until you get to this lovely part:

I expressed, in no uncertain terms, my belief that immigration reform could come to a halt for the year if health care reconciliation goes forward. For more than a year, health care has sucked most of the energy out of the room. Using reconciliation to push health care through will make it much harder for Congress to come together on a topic as important as immigration.

Yes , CIR is dead on arrival.

That means , MR Graham does not want either CIR or HIR...

The two problems will be solved comprehensively in the CHIR (Comprehensive Healthcare and Immigration Reform) in a bipartisan way.

Graham has 40 other Senators in his caucas, the fact that he can't find a second to join him speaks volumes about whether the Republicans are pro or anti immigration (legal or otherwise)!

Showed their true colors, shame on the Cans & their obstructionist attitude. If you look in the past the Cans used reconciliation 3x times more than the Dems.

Obama committed to CIR, as Sid mentioned combine HCR & CIR, use reconciliation & ram it through.

    @James,

Yep. Black mail and a cheap shot. Enforces them further as a party of 'No'.

My political career first, my lobby money 2nd, my party 3rd, before my country.

Suggested that too in Chris Musillo's blog but limited to attaching an amendment to the bill to solve nursing and physical therapist shortages w/c the HCR bill would exacerbate.

However, CIR is good too. Why not, indeed.

If they are going to use reconciliation to ram it through why not go all the way !!

However, I'm not sure if that (HCR+CIR) is even feasible to be honest.

'Back-to-back White House meetings with representatives from the black and Hispanic communities were evidence of the long list of priorities that challenge Obama and lawmakers ahead of November congressional elections.'

    http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE62A5OO20100311

"A White House statement issued after the meeting said participants agreed there are a number of ways to improve employment, such as summer youth employment, job training tied to apprenticeships, and ensuring fair access to contract jobs created through the federal economic stimulus."

I'm guessing that sounded like an underwhelming response to "desperation that we're feeling in [African-American] communities throughout the country".

Then he goes to meet with La Raza who wants to put millions of currently illegal aliens on equal footing and into direct competition with the unemloyed African-Americans who need a job. To this cause, he is "uwavering".

No one needs a job. They need to earn it. White people opposed to Affirmative Action get mad when African Americans are preferred for a job. They say that the best qualified should get the job even though in several cases whites are not qualified for the job....case in point the Secretary of State of Georgia, Karen Handel, does not even have a college degree and is now running for Governor..and the white people in Georgia are not protesting...heaven forbid if this happens to be an African American! But, it is amazing how they become the friends of African-Americans when it comes to dealing with immigrants or illegal immigrants..I think this is a brazen attempt to get minorities fighting so that many unqualified folks such as Karen Handel can continue to hold on to power!

I think it might be better for legal immigrants stuck in the backlog that CIR, as it is, fails. For, then they will certainly take up issues like Visa recapture, STEM graduate degree holders etc. on a piecemeal basis and do something about legal immigration.

I don't give a flying *beep* about the illegals because the Hispanic Caucus has been holding highly skilled immigration issues to ransom in Congress for the sake of amnesty for illegals.

    Just a little side-track. :-)

HC reform is getting 2 impt. endorsements from Limbaugh and Palin.

Rush even praised "socialized HC system" twice already. First time when he was hospitalized in Hawaii and the recent one being his threat to go to Costa Rica if HCR passes not knowing that they use "socialized" HC as well. :-)

Sarah Palin and his family of course sneaks in to Canada when she was still a kid.

These people are funny and oh hypocrites as well :-)

The republicans are using the same tactic with financial reform that is why Dodd is going at it alone, this is the last attempt by the republicans to kill HCR. The have no intention to do CIR or financial reform or anything with Obama.

Arapaio has run everyone out of town, and there is less demand and house prices continue to fall in AZ, leading to ever higher foreclosures...

Yep, they are steadily being exposed to the American public that they really have no intentions to cooperate at all on anything.

All those "bipartisan" talks are all Kabuki dances to trick the Dems and the public that they are sincere but all it was is to delay passing anything until the next elections.

I just hope people see it as it is. Even non-Americans more than half-way around the world monitoring US politics see it crystal clear.
