AND YET FURTHER EVIDENCE GOP'S ANTI-IMMIGRATION VIEWS CAUSING ELECTORAL PROBLEMS

Rate this Entry

The Orange County Register has an interesting piece reporting on the dramatic decline in fortunes for the Republican Party in affluent Orange County, California. Once a solid GOP bedrock in California, a growing immigration voting population in the county has significantly helped Democrats.

The story is also interesting in that the data is supplied by the anti-immigrant Center for Immigration Studies which, based on quotes in the story, is pushing out the data in order to send the message to Republicans that they better stop immigrants from coming to the US because they'll all eventually become Democrats and vote you out. Of course, many of the more enlightened in the GOP realize that the Latino population expansion will happen regardless and it's better to go after those voters rather than surrender their allegiance.

"Huntington Beach, says he's not worried about the decline, saying that legal immigrants will eventually find their way into the GOP.

"I see a lot of new citizens in the Republican ranks," Rohrabacher said. "I think that people who come here legally are all potential Republicans because they have a love in their heart for America that has brought them to our country and eventually those people will opt for limited government and American freedom.""

If he is so confident, why is he part of the House Immigration Reform Caucus which wants a ban on all immigration including Mail Order Brides, Indian arranged marriages, etc? Why does he align himself with Tancredo and other racists such as Nathan Deal, Marsha Blackburn, Michelle Bachman and Lynn Westmoreland?

I know Gimpel's work. He is concerned about America becoming non-white rather than immigrants abandoning GOP which is the concern for many racists in the GOP. Note that Center for Immigration Studies did not participate in the uproar against Vanity Fair for publishing an all-white Hollywood issue cover. Half of those actors were born abroad, but CIS does not have any problems that there are a lot of starving American actors looking for jobs including whites...why? the only crime they committed was the foreigners these Americans are competing against happen to be white. So, is the CIS really opposed to all immigration, or only non-white immigration? I think it is the latter.

However, one must say, that whites who mostly vote for GOP have moved out of places such as Arcadia and Seal Beach as the Asians moved in. Last summer, some whites were protesting against foreign Chinese buying large properties in the Huntington Beach area. Actually, I saw it with my own eyes. Actually, many whites fled the Silicon Valley as Asian moved in...so I dont buy this crap of white flight only from blacks and Hispanics, they also flee from Asians, particularly the tea bagger types. Skin color is all that matters!

"But you can't talk to someone from the immigrant community, threaten to deport their relative and then ask them to vote with you because you're pro-life," he said.

Translation of such statements: in order to 'court' the Latino vote, you can't be for the enforcement of immigration law. You must either be formally for unlimited immigration or informally (the corruption of intentionally ineffectual enforcement). It is simply presumed that Latinos are open-borders, at least for their own ethnicity or nation of origin.

I see a lot of complaints about 'tone' but there are substantive litmus tests. E.g., opposing amnesty, however soberly you do it, is a no-no. From the WSJ article:

'Nonetheless, many in the party have concluded that opposition to immigration legislation, a debate that is sometimes racially charged, has alienated millions of otherwise conservative Hispanic voters.'

This is the political calculus immigration extremists want Republicans to make. Can you survive as a party while simultaneously standing with integrity for effective enforcement of law which limits immigration? Obviously, the hardcore activists who are contemptuous of the country's limited immigration system will scream 'NO WAY!' Some Republicans talk of strategies which don't have anything to do with immigration. In all of these articles, I've yet to hear 'OF COURSE we can be for effective enforcement of immigration law and also be attractive to Latino voters' and then explain why the two are not mutually exclusive.

More ranting from Jack. Singapore cannot control illegal immigration, and that is as close it comes to a police state. Get over it! You can put all the law in the books, but short of becoming a communist North Korea, you can talk all you want..

Yes, how great it would be to enforce the unjust, convoluted, and plain stupid law!

If you are such proponent of enforcement of all laws, how about you go to South Carolina and demand Sanford is jailed? Adultery is a crime in SC, after all.

It will be fantastic if Tom Tancredo focuses more on crimes committed by white American citizens in his former racist district instead of worrying about Hispanic illegal alien crime about a thousand miles away...there was Columbine....

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbine_High_School_massacre

there was Platte Canyon where a white male targeted a bunch of white girls...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platte_Canyon_High_School_hostage_crisis

    and now this...

Tancredo once said that his district was the real America..if this is his vision for America, I would rather pick Southern Carlifornia or New Mexico.

This explains how short-sided these people are, but it would not be the first time that this happened in America. The same statement was made about the Italians, Irish and Polish immigrants before, there will always be some nativist group that wants to restrict immigration to the US. The do not like the country to be the " melting pot" that so proudly proclaims to be .

Center for Immigration Studies is a racist organization!

While they are at it, they should consider jailing Vitter too! In the interview on ABC Jenny Sanford's sister implied that Jenny hand nothing in common with Sanford other than the white skin color...something CIS is afraid that America will loose!

I thought both of them had ambition in common....He wanted to be president and she wanted to be first lady.

None of them thought about politics when they got married.
