CLINTON HINTS THAT WHITE HOUSE WILL GRANT HAITIANS LEGAL STATUS

Rate this Entry

It's not official, but it sounds like the Obama Administration is getting ready to make some news. Secretary Clinton told CBS News today:

"Well, we have, as you know, many Haitian Americans. Most are here
legally. Some are not documented. And the Obama administration is
taking steps to make sure that people are given some temporary status
so that we don't compound the problem that we face in Haiti."

That sounds like Temporary Protected Status or Deferred Enforced Departure.

Apart from TPS, the administration should immediately start allowing folks from Haiti to enter US as refugees. TPS would only protect folks already living here but not help folks who are currently suffering in Haiti.

Turns out that the policy of using exploited illegal immigrants to prop up the economy while demonizing them at the same time, is a western thing, not just American. To be more blunt, I suspect it is a human trait...greed.
