LOU DOBBS: THE IMMIGRANT'S FRIEND

Rate this Entry

Wow, I almost fell out of my chair when readers posted this news item in the comments:

Former CNN anchor Lou Dobbs, pondering a future in politics, is trying
to wipe away his image as an enemy of Latino immigrants by positioning
himself as a champion of that fast-growing ethnic bloc.that was fast.

***

Mr. Dobbs told Spanish-language network Telemundo he now supports a
plan to legalize millions of undocumented workers, a stance he long
lambasted as an unfair "amnesty."

"Whatever you have thought of me in the past, I can tell you right
now that I am one of your greatest friends and I mean for us to work
together," he said in a live interview with Telemundo's Maria Celeste.
"I hope that will begin with Maria and me and Telemundo and other media
organizations and others in this national debate that we should turn
into a solution rather than a continuing debate and factional contest."

Mr. Dobbs twice mentioned a possible legalization plan for the
estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., saying at one
point that "we need the ability to legalize illegal immigrants under
certain conditions."

All I could think of when I read this is the looks of bewilderment that must be showing up on the faces of antis all over the country one by one as they read this stunning news. If there was ever a sign that CIR might happen, this is it.

"Is he still going to Fox news ?"

I think there was really no serious news about him going to Fox other than speculation. He is testing the waters on which path to go for sure.

I hope he is sincere. If he is, then he would certainly be correct about him being of their "greatest friends".

If he's not then he is going to be one of the worst politicians ever or one of the worst entertainers out there. Maybe even worst than Glen Beck.

He is just another politician and entertainer. Unfortunately, even seasoned professionals think it is ok to be an entertainer. Top on the list is University of Michigan Professor Joann Crary who made a prediction that the economy will create 900,000 jobs in 2009, two weeks before the Lehman debacle and the economic collapse. Then she goes underground for nearly a year and now says that unemployment would still be 9.5% by the end of 2011..just plain wind testing. Sad! Happy Thansgiving!

Greg, I seriously hope you and the Latino leadership will not fall for this!

If you do, it will only diminish the political significance of the Latino community. If jokers like LD gets a pass after all he has put was through over the last decade, then neither the democrats nor the republicans will ever be compelled to pursue the Latino voting block and CIR seriously.

There needs to be a price for a marginalizing the Latino community. A political and a financial one.

We, the immigrant community, need to say "No Way Jose!" to LD and deliver a devastating loss to his ill-gotten $12M CNN-retirement-package-turned-political-coffers which he plans to spend in his New Jersey governor's bid and his political career.

Greg Garcia - I don't think you have to worry about my becoming a Lou Dobbs fan. But you have to admit that the story is pretty amusing.

The GOP laughed at John Kerry for being against the war before he bacame for it..

Now let us see on immigration...

Dobbs was against immigration before he became for it.

Romney was for immigration before he became against it.

Dareell "the Turncoat" Issa (who now thinks he is less Arab American and really more white despite being detained at the Dulless airport back in 2002) was a pro advocate before he became against it and saying "I am as white as you guys" joined the hate monger Tancredo's racist House Immigration Reform Caucus..made up hard core female racists such as Marsha Blackburn and Michelle Bachman, not to mention male racists such as Nathan Deal and Lynne Westmoreland and I think Joe "the liar" Wilson.

Gulliani was a pro before he became anti...while his Dem counterpart was anti before becoming pro...and despite their disgust with GOP philandering my sense is that this home wrecker will get into the Senate. If you give the SC or LA (Louisiana) folks a chance they will re-elect both Vitter and Sanford again...whatever talk about family values...no wonder GOP reps like Steve King want to wreck other people's homes based on a legality.

So, just to mention a few...pretty amusing indeed on this Thanksgiving Day that LD will join the long list!

There are hundreds of thousands of legal immigrants who are waiting (backlog) due to inefficiecny of the administrations / laws and the policies. The1y are here waiting for years (some from 2001) and lot of the are even expected to keep waiting in the backlog queue for 10 r more years. And all you guys are discussing is legalization of illegals....I fail what type of justice system is this where the legals are made to suffer everyday and all people could think of legalization of illegals....IN my view if that happens before resolving the issues of the legals suffering from backlog then it would be the biggest fraud / injustice in the nam of LAW just becuase 200000 -400000 legals are less in numbers as compared to 12 millions.

I hope nobody is fooled by this fake piety.. all we know now is that Dobbs can flip-flop - not a big surprise considering how big of a liar he is.

Coolon, you need to understand that the immigration reform is aimed to fix the problem for the American people, and for them, undocumented immigrants is a big problem, and legal immigrants are not a problem at all. It is that simple - Americans are selfish (just like you), and they want their lawmakers to work in their best interest. You can get on board with it and try to plead your case to Americans smartly as a part of the CIR, or you can continue to cry of the unfairness that nobody cares about.

    Coolon ,

There is no point in debating about injustice . If and when bill comes to debate and you think it is not doing justice to you, you can just call your congressman and senators and oppose it. Again , there is no use debating that on this forum because you just cant win.
