CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR CANDIDATE SUPPORTS IMMIGRATION REFORM

Rating: 7 votes, 5.00 average.
Former EBay CEO Meg Whitman is one of the leading contenders for the GOP nomination to succeed Arnold Schwarzeneger as governor of California. She's also just shown a little courage and made clear that she supports immigration reform that includes a path to legalization for the country's illegal immigrants. While the majority of voters in the state - indeed, across the country - support what Whitman is advocating, winning a GOP primary and being pro-immigration could be tougher.

Taking into consideration the performance of Rep Governor "asta la vista" poor performance Ms Whitman is a courageous woman to dream of becoming the next Rep Governor.

It's hard to imagine that someone would become the governor of California with an anti-immigration stance.

Economic conditions in the United States are deteriorating more and more with the passing of time. The US dollar is already on life support, so now you can see more than a million American citizens living in Mexico (something called reversed migration), which is a clear symptom that the economy of their home country will collapse pretty soon.
There won't be a necessity for any immigration reform in the US once the dollar collapses, since a new currency will emerge and will become the common denominator for the economies of Canada, Mexico and the United States - thus, there will be radical changes in the set of laws of these nations to alleviate the transit of individuals throughout these territories...and that's the worst nightmare scenario for people who are willing to profit from any sort of reform.

Sid, former CA governor Pete Wilson ran a successful anti-immigrant campaign in 1994. I've seen his disgusting ads (it was my first year in CA...)
There also was Prop. 187, which would have denied public services to illegals. It passed, but was later declared unconstitutional (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_187_%281994%29)
Since then, of course, anti-immigrants like "B1" Bob Dornan have been defeated (Dornan by a Latina, Loretta Sanchez, no less.)
After Wilson's reelection, and Prop. 187, lots of American Latinos registered to vote in CA, and that helped defeating the antis.

Precisely the scenario without immigration reform. Beggars who have a load of debt cannot be choosers!

The way policies are, US prefers employees (GC 7% quota) from Iran/North Korea over India/China. So much for axis of evil. Go figure.

Whitman will loose because of anti incumbency factor and the fact that her support for immigration does not translate into a vote in the senate or the house. Whitman will loose so will Carly to Boxer.

Both Whitman and Carly would loose because CA is a heavily Democratic state!
