PURPOSE:       Last month, Rep.
Gutierrez told a group of new citizens and supporters of comprehensive
immigration reform that he would introduce a bill to fix our broken immigration
system this fall.  On October 13, at the Reform Immigration FOR
Families:
Family Unity Cannot Wait event he will
announce the principles that outline the bill he will introduce.
>>

 >>

There is significant buzz in immigrant communities around this event
that signals a new beginning to the legislative battle for comprehensive
immigration reform in the 111th Congress.  The President and leaders in
the House and Senate have indicated that immigration reform will be debated
late this year or early next and this event - and the forthcoming bill from
progressive House Members - signals the effort is serious.

What a pleasure it is to watch people like Brittancus (nice job spelling!) go into complete tantrum with complete loss of self control! Go on, pal, blow up into a thousand pieces, we'll watch.

Hi LNLW - I'm actually deleting Brittanicus comments not because of the content, but because he is a spammer. He cuts and pastes identical comments in to different blogs. If he wants to create a market for his own ideas, he can go to Blogger and set up his own blog.

Greg, I know he is a spammer - it's just he gets more and more birther-like crazy, and it's kind of funny.

There is not a single Indian in the leadership group. I do not expect these Hispanic leaders to voices EB-3 Indian concerns about how long all of us have bene waiting and the visa recapture.

If its CIR all issues will be addressed one would hope, this is just a blue print to begin the legislative process....It would be hard to expect a representative from a different nationality of the immigrant community to introduce a bill for each of its people!!!

Any ideas on how this iteration of Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) will look, feel and smell like? Is its primarily focused on the question of undocumented immigrants or have some potential solutions that can break the logjam for people from countries like India, China, and Philippines where some people have been waiting in the line for may be a decade or more

    Thanks

Hard to say. The drafters have been deliberately keeping details quiet.

I still dont expect any movement until unemployment begins to trend down.

The family immigration movement does address interests of many nationalities. Whoever says family immigration and employment are different should remember the mad "dash to the altar" that EB immigrants have to make in fear their AOS is approved before marriage. Don't you think it is completely nuts that anyone on F/J/H/O/you name it visa can pring a spouse to the US, and a permanent resident can't?
  11. StarvingIndian's Avatar
Please remember there are people like me who are waiting since 2003 for their employment based green cards, in the EB3 India line.

"Hard to say. The drafters have been deliberately keeping details quiet."

Looking at the way healthcare bill is going and was politicised, do you really see CIR having a chance to pass this spring? If it fails do you see piecemeal legislations coming out of clutches of hispanic caucus in 2010?
  13. james's Avatar
do you ever wonder, if the majority of the illegals were not hispanic or latino, would these same people be fighting so hard for amnesty for lawbreakers. I personally don't think they would. One thing that does trouble me, however, is the fact that the most violent gangs just happen to be of latino descent. i'm talking about MS13, Mexican Mafia, Latino Kings, Los Zetas, and others. will they be given amnesty too? i would hope there are provisions in ANY reform bill that wont allow this to happen.

That being said, i also don't think the american people would accept any kind of amnesty right now.. especially when you consider 10 percent unemployment. which means about 30 Million americans out of work.

people often complain about a broken immigration system. i do not think its broken, i think both parties who have been elected to positions in DC are to blame for simply not enforcing the laws of the 1986 amnesty. secure southern borders and workplace enforcement.

Rumors are that WH is writing the bill this time after getting hands on experience from the Health Care bill where it had asked the Congress to come up with the bill.
  15. Legal and no longer waiting's Avatar
James, you need to educate yourself. Foreign-born males of Hispanic descent are 5 less likely to commit crimes than American-born males of similar income/education.
  16. Legal and no longer waiting's Avatar
StarvingIndian, well, I am sorry for your situation, but I am afraid you may not be getting a lot of sympathy from FB4 category people, who've been waiting for over 20+ years for an opportunity to file for a green card. Just pointing out that it is not easy to win the pity fest by parading the wait times.
  17. Legal_Alien_from_Roswell's Avatar
Is this the House version of the CIR or is it just another bill? i dont hear the Antis talking about this much, and when is Schumer coming out with his baby?

All of this just seems like hogwash now, giving up hopes already ( like i had any before )
  18. KJ's Avatar
LNLW, now is the time to see what the Hispanic caucus is worth. The inclusion of any consideration for high skilled immigration will show whether this is a real immigration reform, or just another case of the political version of MS-13 holding doctors and engineers hostages so they can get their step-brothers and distant cousins into the country legally.

And also, LNLW, please don't mention FB3/4 categories and try to compare them to EB immigrants here. It's laughable. It's one thing to get a green-card for the husband of your step-sister who lives happily in Mexico, and a completely different thing to stop the suffering of people who live and work here legally, but are nevertheless treated like slaves and discriminated by state and federal agencies alike.

(Don't even get me started on how in some states illegals have valid licenses but EB2 immigrants are given temporary non-renewable licenses and made to take a driving test every year. Compare that to FB4 and the other luxury kickback categories please, and let's see how much sympathy you'll get.)
  19. Legal and no longer waiting's Avatar
KJ, I was on H1 for 6 years, and I was not treated like a slave. To each each own, you know. And I did have a temporary non-renewable licence (and even "certificate for driving") in a few states while being EB2, but you apparently did not because there are no driving test that come with those.

Yet it is really nice of you to let me know what I can mention and what I can't. There is a reason why other immigrants are a little reluctant to stand behind EB interests, and in no small degree it is because EBs don't know how to play nice and support other immigrants. If you stop behaving like Rush Limbaugh, people might like you better.

You mean like how EB immigrants and their organizations blocked CIR legislation for illegal immigrants and stopped DREAM Act until they get recapture, exclusion of advanced degrees from numerical limits, and H1B reform? No, wait! It was the other way around!
