GRASSLEY LETTER TO MAYORKAS TAKES USCIS TO TASK

Rating: 4 votes, 5.00 average.

What a piece of work from the man who warned us about death panels in the health care bill.

His grasp of the facts don't seem to be much better when it comes to USCIS' enforcement of H-1B rules. From this letter, you would think USCIS is sitting around eating bon bons and not engaged in one of the most serious crackdowns in the H-1B program in decades. Most immigration lawyers who saw this memo today are probably scratching their heads because they've recently gotten requests for evidence asking for exactly the kind of documentation Grassley complains USCIS is not requesting. Or they're representing employers who are receiving visits from DHS to check their H-1B compliance.

Of course, the fact that this letter was released publicly via a press release with the usual politician's fanfare rather than simply sent to USCIS tells you what is really motivating Senator Grassley.

Sponsoring H1B or working with a H1B seems like some sort of punishment ..

As usual, Grassley is full of crap! Grassley's goal is to send as many jobs as possible abroad to countries such as Singapore and then institute large cuts in social security benefits after we loose tax and social security revenues!

One more question..no one gives Grassley-Durbin any decent chance of passing. Secondly, even under the worst case scenario the Dems are slated to loose four to six Senate seats..so why are we taking this guys seriously?

The politicians are diverting the public's attention from the real problems facing America - Impending collapse of Social Security, Healthcare System, and once the envy of the world - the American Manufacturing Sector. These sectors and programs made America a World Leader and a champion of freedom and liberty. Over the years, bad to incompetent leadership from both sides of the aisle has led to erosion of American Wealth and these programs.

During the second World War, when America intervened on the side of the British in the Battle of Britain, FIFTY DESTROYERS were transferred to the Royal Navy. This single monumental number perhaps deterred Hitler from attempting to cross the channel to invade England and changed the course of world history. Can we repeat this today?

The politicians have over the years abused their power with earmarks for pet projects etc. and have destroyed America's competitive edge. Now they are trying to make immigrants the scapegoat so that they can stay in power a while longer by presenting an easy, soft target to an enraged, frustrated American Work Force - immigrants. This action could in the long run totally destroy any hope of reviving America's edge in technology over rapidly emerging China. Already the manufacturing edge is perhaps lost forever.

People need to open their eyes and force their representatives to put America "really first" and stop targeting immigrants. Immigration helps and not hurts America.

    Hi Greg,

I have heard rumors that there might be proposal for EB applicants to file for AOS (EAD/AP) along with approved 140 rather than waiting for 485 filing or date to become current. Is there any truth to it?

Does it not make more sense for USCIS to allow filing of AOS along with 140 rather than waiting for dates? Also why don't they keep dates current so applicants can atleast file AOS and be done with h1b stamping drama?

    Thanks

Adi - I will do my best to report on serious proposals on this blog. I would ignore rumors about bills moving - like the one you mention which has been proposed but has no real chance of happening any time soon.

Instead of training these people Grassley voted for draconian education cuts in the past, gutted the labor training programs, and railed against and voted against the Stimilus providing funds for re-training..

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33106445/ns/business-careers/

Of course, he along with Jack, CIS, FAIR and other racists want to hire unqualified Americans instead of training them for these jobs...it will work in law, business and finance, as the employers cant be sued..but will not work in tech fields. Some here in DC with a knowledge of Metro say that unqualified mostly American "engineers" and "technical personnel" were responsible for the crash of June 22 which killed nine people and maimed several others...anyway Metro is now settling out of court..millions of dollars in damages. No wonder, tech companies move jobs abroad. You dont want two aircrafts colliding over your house, would you?

    * Acting Director Scharfen also reported that USCIS would "soon begin using independent, open source data available through commercial sources to obtain information regarding the petitioner that would be relevant to the adjudication of the petition." Has any action on this "independent documentation" effort taken place? Do you, as the new Director, believe that such an initiative is worthwhile, efficient, and necessary? *

Does this mean adjudicator can just google (see word open source) a petitioner and say I found 10 complaints or people ranting with issues and hence we will deny your H1 petition?

if thats what it is, Grassley probably should be first one to go as there are lot of rants and complaints on him. Open source data for adjudicating?? the guy needs to get his head examined

It also means the job moves abroad.

    Chicago loses Olympic bid (NYT)

In the official question-and-answer session following the Chicago presentation, Syed Shahid Ali, an I.O.C. member from Pakistan, asked the toughest question. He wondered how smooth it would be for foreigners to enter the United States for the Games because doing so can sometimes, he said, be "a rather harrowing experience."

    George,

Some times I wonder what Iowans are really up to. Are they the same folks that put Barack Obama on the map? Its not like its a RED RED state. Seems like Grassley has been winning landslides. I hope he has his George Allen moment soon

Worth a read, "The Wizard of Beck" by David Brooks

"But, of course, we shouldn't be surprised by this story. Over the past few years the talk jocks have demonstrated their real-world weakness time and again. Back in 2006, they threatened to build a new majority on anti-immigration fervor. Republicans like J.D. Hayworth and Randy Graf, both of Arizona, built their House election campaigns under that banner. But these two didn't march to glory. Both lost their campaigns"

Taliban Bob McDonnel has learnt the lessons from Hayworth and Graf losses and has de-emphasized immigration. He will likely become the governor of Virginia on November 3.

Vilsack could unseat Grassley but he is not interested. Grassley is a pro-tax Republican, but he also wants to cut social security due to shortfall of revenues..he is responsible for the revenue shortfalls!

    America and Grassley beware...

"The scheme aims to attract successful Chinese-origin scientists to lead key laboratories, projects and disciplines in China. It promises competitive salaries and funding to people with full professorships or the equivalent in developed countries. Non-Chinese scientists will also be considered."

    http://www.scidev.net/en/china/chinese-repatriation-scheme-needs-tighter-rules-.html?utm_source=link&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=en_china

Now if implemented fully by China, the US will face severe consequences..

That was a great question and at the same time an understatement.

Unless, they can answer this convincingly no US city will be able to host the Olympics for years to come. And they better not bid at all if they won't be able to come up with an answer for it as that question will be asked again and again.

Looking back at the Beijing Olympics, China really showed they have arrived and is a bonafide world power. Brazil, will make the same statement.

At this rate, the 2020 Olympics will be hosted by another BRIC country or a European country. Russia will probably make a serious bid for the 2020 Olympics to make another statement.
