DREAM ACT GRADUATIONS THIS COMING TUESDAY

Rating: 2 votes, 5.00 average.

I received the following note from a reader and wanted to pass it on to all of you since this is a really important cause:

I was reading your blog and I wanted to let you know
about a DREAM Act event happening next Tuesday. The United We Dream Coalition
and Dreamactivist.org will be holding a National DREAM Act Graduation ceremony
in Washington D.C. on June 23rd. The event will be attended by over
500 students from across the country. Also, representatives from Microsoft and
College Board will be in attendance and will hand out Activism Awards to
students who have proved outstanding leadership. Right after the Graduation
ends, we will be visiting the offices of legislators to urge them to support
the DREAM Act.

This is especially important to me because, if enacted, I
would benefit from the DREAM Act. I'm an undocumented student who has been
living in the US for the past 9 years. My parents brought me to this
country when I was only 12 years old in search of a better future. Since then,
its been a huge struggle to pay for my college education because Im forced to
pay international tuition despite having been living in my county for 9 years
and considering the U.S. my home. The DREAM Act is not only beneficial to
students like me, but it is also beneficial to this country because we will
have law-abiding tax payers entering the work force.

In addition to the National DREAM Act Graduation, many
organizations from across the U.S. will also be holding their own Graduations
in solidarity with the one in D.C. The events will be held in North Carolina,
Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Indiana, and California.

But the thing is, it is really important to get the word
out about it. And your blog is an amazing tool for that. It would be really
great if you could let your readers know about this event and the other events
happening all over the country. Your help is extremely important in order to
make the DREAM Act a reality this year.

You can visit http://www.dreamactivist.org/dream-graduations-coast-coast
for more information about this event or e-mail me if you have any questions at
all.

Thank you so much for your help and support!

I am tired of DREAM and Durbin. I guess the backlog of Indians need to become some 2 million or above so that vote bank politicians can make it their issue. Its common sense to have provisions for legal folks who aged out because their parents ended up on visa for too long. Durbin thinks these kids are born with a silver spoon and the undocumented are the only ones who suffer. Bigotry! I guess I am kidding myself, After all in Durbin's opinion all these kids who are on visa and their parents will or have stolen jobs.

I dont have anything against releif to these "kids" but they should go back to line of green card . They should be subjected to country caps if anyone else is subjected to country caps and they should not be given free premium processing.

Durbin is a bigot/protectionist and he just does not get it.

I am really amazed by how children of legal immigrants who are waiting in the green card Que are conveniently ignored in spite of suffering from similar hardships like the children of illegal immigrants. In all fairness, the least one can do is consider the children of legal immigrants on the same footing if not better.

Why not have an amnesty for the backlogged legal immigrants, just for a change.

Why is always "us vs them"? How can you tell a kid that they will neven going to be able to live legally in the country where they grew up just because someone else is not getting a green card sooner? Not like those kids will be taking green cards from legal kids. Yes, I agree legal kids are treated cr@ppy, but why should that be the reason to treat other kids even worse? How about telling EB immigrants that they need to wait 25 years to file their green cards just because some FB categories are retrogressed by 25 years? This makes NO ******* SENSE!

Oh, and somewhere in his ****eon, Mark Krikorian is very happy you fools picked up on his strategy to pit immigrants against one another. He is hoping none of you will ever get any relief, and so far he has been right.

Its the strategy of Durbin to pit one immigrant group against another. Why on the earth he wants to give free premium processing for these "kids" with no fee. I guess when someone is able to pay full tuition fee I would assume he or she should be able to pay for premium processing. Why on the earth Mr. Durbin wants to give free premium processing .

No one is suggesting any kid should be treated bad , I guess the question everyone is asking is , what is the difference between a kid with papers and a kid without papers?

  9. AJ's Avatar
To the people who are complaining about DREAM - chill out. You will find plenty of people willing to help you prove that your kids have illegal status and therefore are eligible for DREAM. Remember that this only takes an affidavit from someone stating that your kid worked off the books.

Dream Act needs to become a reality and hopefully some immigrants will get some help to move forward with their future regardless if its fair to some group or not. When its the other group's turn we should be equally happy for that reform too. But the "it's not fair game....gets old".

    Amen to that.

What did CHC did to EB releif bills , It killed every bill that did not help their vote bank.

Must be the right thing to do, since EBs are now following their example, correct?

There is no lobby for EBs thats eqvivalent to CHC ... EBs are not stalling anything except posting on forums like these. I wont be surprised if some people in EB group want to kill Durbins "Dream". Durbin need to understand that his wedge strategy will not work. It is well known fact that Durbin hates Indians because Indian doctors are opposed to frivolous law suits.

I did not realize that I did tick off some one

    LNLW,

Thank you for thinking that we are making Kirkorian happy. No wonder you are no longer waiting and want the whole enchilada. Sorry my friend, You should know that is high time for EB relief, dream/Nurse . Just becuase CIR is not getting through does not mean that we should suffer, dream kids should suffer, legal kids should suffer or any thing. Just because a bunch of folks asked for piece meal bills doesnt mean that there is no unity amongst them. You got it entirely wrong. No one is asking not to pass dream. I am pointing out that Durbin is ******* up to vote bank or passion. Either way he is a bigot. He wants to provide a path to USC for these kids but does not tell where the $$ money comes from. For a moment, lets say he is passionate, oh wait a sec, where did the passion for kids of legal immigrants go? They are not people. Just because they are documented makes them free of all issues. Next moment he joins with Grassley to get acts that would pretty much escalate outsourcing. If you have an iota of pain, you will not ask for CIR again and again, knowing that it is not going to fly this year. Look at the schedule of congress and then talk. All the press is fluff. I am really tired of the CHC and Hispanics who know that they have the power and muscle and are forcing their will on every one. Hey, Every dog has its day.

Bob Dole, once said if there is 80% out there to work on a legislation take it and get back again for 20%. Status quo is not a FFFing option, after 5 years of retrogression. CHC wants to hold every one hostage and you will keep killing our argument in the name of unity, which we never gave up. Simple piece meal bills will not solve the legal immigration problem as a whole. You know this and CHC knows this. Guitierrez knows this, but does he care. Get real dude!

    HI
    Greg
I have read an artical from LA times "The White House has downplayed expectations for a meeting next week of lawmakers involved in the issue. Some Democrats say they might not be able to pass a citizenship plan until after the 2010 vote"
Do you think that it will not happen until after the 2010 election?Aren't there any strong points on passing the CIR this year?
    Thanks
  18. AJ's Avatar
Not much of a surprise, but the White House is now saying on the record that the votes for CIR do not exist. Makes sense given that fixing the economy will be critical for the coming elections.

I now highly doubt anything will ever happen with the CIR, the writing is clear on the wall. THERE IS NO POLITICAL WILL.

    We are screwed. Royally.
  20. Legal and no longer waiting's Avatar
AD, the reality is that CHC is the only force that has the musle to push for any immigration reform, and you can't blame them for choosing their own strategy in doing so (that includes blocking any piece meal legislation they do not want to pass before the CIR). Since EB folks support does not count for much in the process (sorry, it's just the numbers), it is not a good strategy for them to piss off the CHC every chance they get. I am not at all saying that EB measures should not be passed or should be a second priority. What I am saying is that your anger is very counterproductive, and it pushes your own agenda lower and lower on the totem poll. Actually, after two years of counterproductive talk, it is off the poll altogether. Maybe it's high time EB folks review and adjust their stratagy. Remember, Durbin does not mean much in the big schema of things. If he wants to help some immigrants, let them do it, and don't get distructed.
