REID: WE'LL DO IMMIGRATION REFORM THIS YEAR

Rate this Entry

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is promising immigration will be one of three major legislative priorities this year (the other two are health care reform and energy). It's not news that Senator Reid wants to push for reform this year, but it is the first time I've seen him be this specific on where immigration reform ranks on the priorities list.

"what about economy and the war on terror"

What else is there left to do legislatively for the economy?

In my opinion, there's nothing left to do after nationalizing almost everything and giving all the stimulus there is.

In fact, the Gov't should stop already and let everything work itself up first.

Terrorism? That will be an on-going war for years to come and what legislation is there to do for terrorism? Even if Osama Bin Laden is killed, the fight for terrorism continues.

    Hi Greg

Any chance of HR 2536 (Nurse Bill) being attached to HealthCare Reform Bill

Seems consistent with the WH statements as to the strategy to tackle immigration. We should see how Health care Reform come out, then how much political capital is left to tackle another biggy like immigration.

Harry Reid and Pelosi deal with this at a different level. They will ask all the players such as Bigot Durbin, Mad Gutierrez, Meek Menendez (take the names in light vein), other interest groups on Schedule A reform to fight amongst each other and come up with a solution. Guitierrez will go nuts and will keep shouting, its all or none. Durbin says I want my DREAM. screw EB. Menendez says guys lets do some thing, S1085 is not the panacea. we will do CIR again if you think Bluedogs will defeat us and look us bad. Gutierrez does not care. CHC will not stand behind Pelosi any more.

Enter Barack,President stops the shouting match and says, aight if you guys are fighting here so much and schumer who is new to the immigration fights (unlike Cornyn and Kyl) doesnt negotiate like kennedy, lets wait until 2011. After all the GOP is kicking Hispanics, even the conservative ones away. What do we gotta lose? Just for fun but very well possible behind doors.

Mr.Reid is facing re-election soon and the latest news say he is loosing his popularity there. So, timing of this announcement makes me wonder if he is really in for the cause???

Reid is fighting a tough re-election campaign he needs Hispanics on his state and union members which helped turn the State towards the democrats, I do not think he can afford to wait....

All the anti-immi's are sweating, they know they're going to loose, if not this year, by early next year we would have a CIR that would have passed.

Eventhough the antis are sweating, dont believe Reid. Some Americans who have been here in Singapore for over ten years are working with the antis to stop reform..particularly the white American nurses making a good living here...to them it is a one way street!

That's a lot of hypocrisy coming from those people. They should look at themselves first in the mirror.

Of all people, they should be the one who should know better being a foreign worker on another country themselves.

Also, just happens that nurses who are white are treated and given better benefits and pay compared to nurses coming from Asia. This is specially true in the middle-east. Not sure of SG but would not be surprised if they also think white nurses are better than Asian nurses just because they were educated in the US.

And these nurses in the US that are antis still think nurses coming from another country are receiving lower pay even though they get the same prevailing wage. They don't realize that their fellow US nurses working abroad are actually given better pay in the middle-east compared to nurses from Asia.

    Hypocrisy !

I have been reading articles about patients waiting in the ER for hours and even almost a full day w/o even a staff seeing them or even know they exist and just dying in the ER w/o even being seen. I know many of you have read such similar articles about patients going to the ER but having to wait for hours just to be seen, if they are lucky that is. Some just die in the ER before they got notice.

This is just one of the latest of those cases:

Where are the nursing shortage deniers and the American nurses working abroad but working with antis to stop reforms ??

"That's a lot of hypocrisy coming from those people. They should look at themselves first in the mirror."

Answer: They say that they are abroad because the pay is better than the US driven down by foreign competition. White nurses are paid better in the Middle East than African American or Asian American nurses. Asian American nurses are treated like dirt...I mean Asian American nurses. Here in Singapore white nurses are paid better because they work in exclusive clinics catering to the expat community. At the local levels there are few white nurses but paid according to qualifications..yes, US trained ones are paid better..but that is irrespective of skin color unlike the Middle East.

"Of all people, they should be the one who should know better being a foreign worker on another country themselves."

Answer: As I said they would all say that they are here because they are paid better!

    Answer: Affirmative.

Answer: Many have a sense of entitlement. We cannot count the so-called brain drain from South Africa of nurses accurately. Why? the so-called brain drain focuses only on black nurses leaving South Africa. The do-gooders in Britain make a commitment not to recruit in South Africa because the country "needs them". However, this only refers to black nurses and not white nurses. There are several Afrikaans speaking nurses who are regularly recruited in the UK. There are many here in Singapore..married to other nationalities and believe it or not even to rich Chinese Singaporeans...who stay at home tending to their children (I am saying believe it or not because twenty years ago these folks will not even touch a non-white skin). Those married to other white nationalities continue to work as nurses..some married to Brits are notorious..although many work in Asia and in the Middle East, they work for the British National Party which wants to deport all non-whites from the UK and I heard from some folks here that last friday and saturday these folks celebrated in bars after the BNP won two seats in the European parliament..now that is hypocrisy..folks working abroad in non-white countries but wanting to deport non-whites from their adopted country or the country of their birth!

I am trying to analyze the brains of these folks, particularly the Brit and white South African Boer women in this part of the world! Wish me luck because I only have qualifications in economics!

I was a bit shocked when you gave me a glimpse on how they think and view things w/c why I could only say that it's truly amazing.

I guess they think world only belongs to them and only them, ha?

Some of these folks I have been talking about are among the writers in this blog...they always say they dont like third world immigration while they work comfortably here...this is the problems locals have with foreigners from the western countries skilled or otherwise...they always think that it should be a one way street..and that people from here are third world migrants who should not be working in places such as the UK.
