Greg Siskind on Immigration Law and Policy

AMERICA'S VOICE DRAWS LINK BETWEEN SESSIONS AND WHITE SUPREMACIST GROUPS

Rating: 3 votes, 5.00 average.

Sam Stein of the liberal Huffington Post has written a column reporting on pro-immigration America's Voice and their criticism of the Republicans new leader on the Senate Immigration Subcommittee. According to Stein:

There is no evidence that Sessions holds some of the most extreme views of the individuals and groups he has associated with, and they have no large-scale financial links to the senator. But the report by America's Voice illuminates just where Sessions stands and who he associates with on one of the big political issues to confront Congress in the years ahead. And they build upon earlier reporting linking the senator to racially inflammatory views.

The America's Voice report documents how Sessions has regularly appeared with or joined political causes backed by groups founded by Tanton, including the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), NumbersUSA -- which named Sessions its "2008 Defender of the Rule of Law" -- and the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR.) The senator also received a $1,000 donation from the U.S Immigration Reform, a political action committee founded by Tanton's wife.

Sessions' office did not immediately return a request for comment.

According to a report by the Southern Poverty Law Center, these groups have served as vehicles for getting quasi-Nativist rhetoric inserted into the mainstream immigration debate. They are, indeed, an oft-quoted source for reporters writing about the topic. Tanton, meanwhile, was described by SPLC as the founder of "the racist Social Contract Press," and a correspondent "with Holocaust deniers, white nationalist intellectuals and Klan lawyers for decades." Interestingly enough, his work on conservation causes earlier in life was lauded by environmentalists.

For Sessions' critics, the ties to Tanton and his groups gain even more import now that the senator will be playing such an integral role in the immigration debate. But they are also a reflection of a political career that has been defined by anti-immigration rhetoric and legislation. Sessions has supported the construction of a fence along the Mexican border and opposed the establishment of a guest worker program. One of the fiercest opponents of the massive immigration reform effort that died in the Senate two years ago, he once dubbed the effort the "Terrorist Assistance and Facilitation Act of 2007."

A comment under the Huf Post piece:

'Amazing that you are bent out of shape by the hatchet-job done on Sondra Sotomayor one day, then turn around and carry water for the immigration "reform" activists, repeating their smear tactics. I'm no fan of Sessions, but seriously, is there a FACT anywhere in that story? Or just guilt by very attenuated association?'

The America's Voice one quotes Sessions as playing 'cards' and then...doesn't refute what he said! Huh? The reader is supposed to assume it's not true simply because you don't like it? It quotes Sessions applauding the signing of a bill relating to border fencing, something people like Obama and Hillary have supported. Incendiary stuff. I'm not sure what part of that I'm supposed to be outraged by--the allusion to a Robert Frost line? I doubt it was written by Frank Sharry--he brings more heat than this.

Why doesn't America's Voice (or whoever) ever take on NumbersUSA's policy position as it relates to immigration? They are against population growth and thus favor lower immigration levels. They give reasons why they think that's the best policy. Rather than argue against that position, opponents always attack a man (ad hominem). The 'puppeteer' label for Tanton is reminiscent of conspiracy theories about another aged, obscure figure--David Rockefeller. These guys pull all the strings--you just can't see it because 'they' (sinister organizations) are keeping it a secret. Isn't it ironic that SPLC frequently cites conspiracy theories relating to the inordinate power of a single person as hallmarks of fringe groups but engages in the same tactic themself?

Tanton's group is a fraud. Many countries are concerned with declining populations and are following a pro-natal polices. Singapore has the most competent government in the world following a pro-natal policies. I would rather listen to the success story of Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore than a failed nativist knows as Richard Lamm, the former governor of Colorado. and CIS are racist organizations hiding behind an agenda of population control. Sessions is a racist. Go to Wikipedia and there is plenty of evidence. I posted that evidence a few weeks ago. Will Tanton pay my social security if labor force declines if his dumb policies are adopted? Will Stein and Kirkorian pay for my medicare if labor force declines? Will the racist Sessions pay my bills? Population control and declining labor force are a luxury we cannot afford.

"shows the decline of the GOP and its movement towards the lunatic fringe..."

After Cheney's comments that he prefers Limbaugh to Colin Powell after Powell became vocal of his discontent plus Michael Steele's criticism (and quick retraction ala the now infamous quick apology to Limbaugh) on Romney.

Then about early May Rep. Boehner and Steve King labeled the Hispanic Politicians as terrorists. This was the 2nd time someone from GOP labeled them as such in just a span of a few months and if I'm not mistaken, there are no apologies this time around.

They are pushing Powell as well. Would not be surprised if he quits the GOP and be independent or defect like Specter.

Then there's "Joe the Plumber" saying he's quitting the GOP as well.

Talk about a party in disarray.

If you read Steve King's pronouncements in 2006 on the struggle of the proletariat and a need to build the wall I am sure he is a communist masquerading as a capitalist..or at the minimum he is commie-pinko of convenience. You would think that if they really feared Islamic radicalism they will try to unite Christians..instead they antagonize a segment of the fundamentalist Chistian society that they say they represent...more like white skin worshipping pagans..Sessions is definitely one based on his pronouncements. Calling a segment of Christian community terrorists based on skin color does not a Christian nation or Christian unity make.

Based on my secular, non-Christian point of view, if Mr. Sessions can show how he is going to solve the social security and medicare problems without resorting to tax increases, more immigration and a larger labor force or draconian cuts in the pogram, I am willing to listen...as I asked are all these antis willing to pay my social security and medicare?

Dont see antis protesting tax roll backs which will lead to large budget cuts at universities including nursing schools, and deny Americans education in needed fields! Tells you what guys like Kirkorian and Stein as well as their organizations are..paying lip service to education Americans...their goal, like Sessions, is to keep America white..and as far as the citizens are concerned..same baloney...dont want to spend on education but want to hire less quaified citizens for more money...businesses are not running a charity...if they cannot find qualified Americans or foreigners here, they have every right to move the jobs abroad.

California Universities may be forced to increase foreign student intake if budget cuts decimate enrollments...interesting Kirkorian will be up in arms criticizing intake of more foreign students but the racist has little or nothing to say about budget cuts that would prevernt many well deserved Americans from attending universities including nursing schools. In 2008-09, the only reason the universities did not have to take TARP money was due to foreign students...will Kirkorian subsidize American students through CIS scholarships and put his money where his mouth is? Or is it plain and simple racism trying to keep non-whites out of America?

What is so hypocritical and disturbing about left is in its rush to embrace so many 'victims' of society that it completely tramples the rights of traditional folks in our own culture. Whether they are arrogantly in the face of conservative traditional catholics or demanding voter's voices be silenced, it is clear that they really have no concern for traditional values in any culture. Efforts they make to appear sympathetic have to be seen as mere vote getting efforts and exploitation of the minority traditional groups. It is disturbing to see this hypocrisy in play and this feigned compassion presented as real concern for any peoples, immigrants, poor or traditional. If you can't be honest in one area and go the distance, you can't expect people to think you can do that for another. Discrimination rears its ugly head in the democrat aisle, while Notre Dame and Georgetown have to deal with heartbreak and avoidable sorrow. As long as a minority group has benefit to the rising red agenda of the libs, they will stomp for them. Their values are predicated on the progression of their agendas, not the inherent need for representation of a group.
