Mayorkas_A12856_web The White House today announced the appointment of Cuban-born attorney Alejandro Maryorkas as the nation's new Director of US Citizenship and Immigration Services. Congratulations to Mr. Mayorkas on his appointment.

President Obama announced his intent to nominate the following individuals today:

Alejandro Mayorkas, Nominee for Director, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Department of Homeland Security

Mayorkas is currently a partner at O'Melveny and Myers, and
previously served as the United States Attorney for the Central

Mayorkas represents Fortune 100 and other companies in their highest
profile and most complex and sensitive matters throughout the country
and the world. He advises boards of directors and top executives, tries

appointed from within the Office. Mayorkas led an office of 240
Assistant U.S. Attorneys in the prosecution of cases in varied areas of
law enforcement, including cases of public corruption, investment
fraud, civil rights violations, high-tech and computer-related crime,
organized crime, environmental crime, and international money
laundering. The National Law Journal recently named Mr. Mayorkas one of
the "50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America."

While I hope that Mr. Mayorkas does a good job as USCIS director, I am troubled by the fact that he has absolutely no background in immigration. Yes, he's clearly accomplished, but I don't see any indication in his background that he has ever had any exposure to immigration issues, much less to managing a a large organization. I hope that his background as a US attorney doesn't make him view USCIS as an enforcement agency, rather than as the benefits agency it is.

Of course, since he does not spout hate with every turn of phrase, what else could he be? Maybe if he started posting on VDare with the white supremacists and showed adequate gratitude to his superiors, he would be acceptable?

Btw Thank your stars for the clay cup!

I would like to know what is being done for K2 visa holder who adjusted status over 21 years old and are being told their LPR or greencard being denied due to this? K2 visa was obtained before 21 years of age, and entered U.S. before 21. This all does not make sense and needs to be straigtened out as the verovkin vs still case. This has been going on for too long.

    Dear Mr.Mayorkas,

I wish you much luck and would like to inform you that I have been trying since May 11, 2008 to get my fiancee here from Anshan China on a k-1 Visa. Our case was deep sixed in Guangzhou when the consulate did not follow procedures. I had great expectations that justice would be done in the USA by USCIS but every turn has been to deny and not to help. I need help as I know that we have met every requirement of the law for the k-1 Visa and yet they want to close the case. They defeat the purpose of the K-1 and K-3 Visa and if you want a heads up, there is much improvement needed. As the new director I wish you sucess in making the USCIS what it was intended to be. My case is WAC0813550934 and motion WAC0923550793.

Please help the Employment based category 3 - India guys. The priority dates for issuing the green card are in 2001 from past 5-6 years. Everyone is worried about illegal immigrants, what about us who are legal and paying taxes from 10 years, and still waiting on green cards. Please help us.
