Greg Siskind on Immigration Law and Policy

POLL: AMERICANS NO LONGER ALL THAT CONCERNED ABOUT IMMIGRATION

Rate this Entry

Rasmussen Reports indicates in their latest poll that only 5% of Americans list immigration reform as a top priority, a number that is consistent with historical numbers but is much reduced from the last few years when anti-immigration activists whipped up a wave of nativism not seen in many years in the US. One of the reasons immigration measures big and small have not succeeded in recent years is because the entire issue of immigration has been perceived as radioactive and no one wanted to take on the crazies. As it becomes clear that dealing with immigration issues isn't something that is going to sway many voters one way or the other, it actually might be easier to get down to dealing with bread and butter fixes to problem areas in the system.

Surely, the problem is that very few people understand the linkage between immigration and other top priorities. CIR will help to reduce deficits by both increasing the tax base and making people more productive. More taxes to state and local governments will also increase funding to the schools etc. Innovation is also needed to get new sources of energy and immigration policy can help us in that as well, by getting all the talented people here.

    People need more education.

First and foremost we are a nation of laws, or as we are all anticipated? But years of previous administrations have neglected the illegal immigrant problem, to the detriment of American workers. Ever since the inception of the 1986 Immigration & Reform Act, signed into law by Ronald Reagan, the politicians have pushed for a new AMNESTY. In addition, anytime a new law has been drafted to combat the illegal immigrant occupation of our country, they have behind closed doors killed it or weakened it's enactment. The law of given instant citizenship to babies intentionally born here, is a complete misinterpretation of the 14th amendment, after the civil war that emancipated African slaves.

It was never meant for (Anchor Babies) to give pregnant illegal alien mothers the right to legal status? The law has been badly mauled because the children can then draw on US education, free medical care, free baby delivery and after care, low income housing and it is a route to many government handouts. The major problem now facing the Obama White House is are the children of illegal immigrants to blame for their parents breaking the law? Obviously the left-wingers are to blame for this conundrum, but both parties have added to neglect to the sovereign laws of our nation. I think we should follow other countries "Rule of Law" and cement in place that children who have proven themselves can go to a place of higher learning. We desperately need a wide scope of professionals in Engineering, Science and 21st Century technology. But also remember that our government settles the largest population of new immigrants on Earth. What we don't need is more poorly educated, non-English speaking, impoverished aliens, looking for handouts. Like other developed nations we must be very specific, who we pick and choose as new citizens. We must also restrain ourselves from chain migration, who are liable to become a public charges, because the family sponsors have decided the US taxpayer should carry the financial weight?

We can thank our corrupt liberal politicians, judges in the past as drafting a passive law, instead of entering America being a criminal offense. Now we have uncountable number of illegal aliens squatting here, because of the absolute intentional neglect of our lawmakers. Is there any other country in the world, that makes illegally crossing into their sovereign territory a Civil Crime--I really don't think so? Our laws deliberately drafted this way in favor of the open border, big Catholic church and special interest groups. To HXXX with the American people, who are forced to fight for their jobs?

But if American defeat the next Amnesty ready to pounce on the unsuspecting legal population, we must make an example in using the 1986 law. We as a people must build-on the E-Verify application, upgrade, modify to extract illegal job applicants from the workplace. Illegal immigrants who have overstayed visas, illegal crossed the border and children must be exempt from any pardon. All children of illegal parents that have committed crimes, been expelled or just deserted school should leave with parents in the usage of self-deportation. This is a compliance way to remove foreign nationals and any criminal businesses that employ them, must receive mandatory, fines, asset confiscation and prison terms. The use of a in-perpetuity E-Verify will be a ultimate deterrent and see movement of illegal labor and families packing and leaving under the term of "ATTRITION" We must force our reluctant politicians to be governed by--THE PEOPLE'S--WILL or face the dire consequences in the election process. This will surely happen when Sen. Reid, Speaker Pelosi and 48 other Senate lawmakers come up for re-election. They underfunded E-Verify, that obviously is working efficiently for them to kill it.

The open border, free traders, special interest groups will use any contradictions, epithets, racial slurs to annul any new law--which they have done successfully up to now. But American should realize strongly, that this has nothing to do with a persons color, religion or ethnic background--and EVERYTHING--to do with being--CARTE BLANCHE--for parasite employers, who pay nothing to illegal immigrant upkeep? It's left to Taxpayers? Its everything to do with billions of dollars spent, to pacify the big Catholic church, a portion of Liberal voters and others who see nothing wrong in loading citizens, residents down with sky high taxes. Supposedly the last White House promised no thoughts of a Path to Citizenship until the border was orderly and closed to undesirable With another drafted and secret Amnesty on the House and Senate table, like always--this is not the case. Drug smuggling and incessant illegal immigration is still very prevalent. The rumors from the new White House are clearly signaling another push for AMNESTY?

So go to these sites: VDARE, FAIRUS, JUDICIALWATCH, NUMBERSUSA, AMERICANPATROL, CAPSWEB & ALIPAC. The stakes are sky high because Amnesty means, thousands more will swamp the border looking for yet a 3rd---AMNESTY.

Right now they need to focus on the areas where united states can benefit using immigration.Areas such as investment category, health care workers and high technology areas that will bring immediate jobs to America should be the first priority. They should bring people who are needed to lift this economy. I still think business and employment categories are critically important.

As far as amnesty, The truth is we need each other. It doesnt matter I am a hispanic/asian/black american or white, we are a community and needs all the help to recover. Don't go into those wild cowboy dreams of living alone in a elite community where your coffee shop waiter will be an engineering graduate and shop keeper an architect. You are so lucky to be born as what you are(Every one thinks the same). Show your greatness and have some humility to others and America will succeed.I am not a amnesty advocate, but I think they too deserve a chance in life.Learn a little bit about Legal immigration processing then you will know why they broke the law in the first place.

Surely we all agree that the system is broken. Not only do we have a lot of illegal immigrants, we also have a lot of legal immigrants in this country who are not able to establish significant roots coz they are in a limbo.

Consequences of no change in immigration law are multifold. We will exaberate the illegal immigration problem in the US and drive out legal immigrants who make this country competitive in a global world. With no change illegals will continue to work like they are and legal immigrants can easily find more welcoming countries.

This country is a nation of laws, but clearly its citizens and future generations are the ones who these laws serve. Whatever we decide to do should not be detrimental to its people.

For example, Microsoft opened it offices in Vancouver when it could not get H1B for its employees. I too know a much smaller company in New York here which decided to open offices in India as they could not get H1B for some of there new employees the last couple of years. This eventually affects people in the US. Not only have jobs moved out (which some might argue would never have been with americans anyway), we also loose all the secondary jobs associated with these jobs.

Surely we all want this country to prosper and have the highest standards of living, innovation and wealth. If that is what we agree on, I am sure we will find a lot of common ground to look into the future.

    From CNN:
    http://us.cnn.com/2009/US/04/22/undocumented.students/index.html
"An estimated 65,000 undocumented students graduating from American high schools every year face nearly insurmountable obstacles to attending college, according to a report released Tuesday by the College Board.
The result is a significant amount of "wasted talent" that "imposes economic and emotional costs on [the] students themselves and on U.S. society as a whole," the report said."
"It calls on Congress to pass what has been dubbed the "Dream Act." That legislation would allow undocumented students who were brought to the United States before age 16 and who have lived in the country for at least five years to apply for legal permanent resident status if they finish high school and subsequently attend college or join the military."

Passage of the Dream Act is long overdue.

I think he belongs to one of those hate groups. He cannot convince more than 5% of Americans that immigration is a priority..so he gives a bunch of baloney!

"But years of previous administrations have neglected the illegal immigrant problem, to the detriment of American workers."

The only workers who are in serious trouble are in industries with little or no immigrant competition..i.e., airline and auto industries. GM will likely go bankrupt and we cannot blame the consequent unemployment of workers on the illegal aliens.

"The law of given instant citizenship to babies intentionally born here, is a complete misinterpretation of the 14th amendment, after the civil war that emancipated African slaves."

In the true liberal policy it is better to give these mothers abortion. As many conservatives say Dems believe in killing the babies before they are born, but the GOP and people like you believe in slowly killing some babies of the wrong color after they are born (Ron Paul would protect a fetus because the fetus has no color, but once the baby is born, it has color, so Ron Paul who masquerades as a libertarian wants to deny it citizenship. In a related subject one low IQ consular officer in the Philippines once told me that visas are frequently rejected for Filipina women because they go to America to find husbands. When I told her that there are enough Americans to go around in the Philippines and elsewhere (10% of the maids in Singapore (about 50 each year) end up marrying Americans or Canadians in any one given year), she said she did not think of it.

"Obviously the left-wingers are to blame for this conundrum, but both parties have added to neglect to the sovereign laws of our nation."

A nation nose deep in debt is sovereign in name only. US is like a home owner who has not paid off his house, and the house does not belong to him until the payment is made in full.

"We desperately need a wide scope of professionals in Engineering, Science and 21st Century technology. But also remember that our government settles the largest population of new immigrants on Earth. What we don't need is more poorly educated, non-English speaking, impoverished aliens, looking for handouts."

Your friends at VDARE, FAIRUS and CIS wont agree with this. Read Mark Kirkorian's Case Against Immigration or Roy Beck's Case Against Immigration (published in 1996).

"Like other developed nations we must be very specific, who we pick and choose as new citizens."

Other developed nations are not indebted to other countries like we are!

"We must also restrain ourselves from chain migration, who are liable to become a public charges, because the family sponsors have decided the US taxpayer should carry the financial weight?"

You mean the Indians who are the richest group in this country? They are the largest group that benefits from chain migration.

"To HXXX with the American people, who are forced to fight for their jobs?"

Like those at GM, Chrysler and Ford who face no competition from illegals or legals? Or the airline mechanics and baggage handlers who face no competition from illegals?

"We must force our reluctant politicians to be governed by--THE PEOPLE'S--WILL or face the dire consequences in the election process. This will surely happen when Sen. Reid, Speaker Pelosi and 48 other Senate lawmakers come up for re-election. They underfunded E-Verify, that obviously is working efficiently for them to kill it."

They are the people's will. As I recall, others can correct me if I am wrong, we had an election four months ago, and the people's will was carried out. Many of the FAIRUS and CIS supported candidates were defeated. People's will tells us that only 5% think that immigration is a major issue! So the people have spoken.
It's left to Taxpayers?"

Let us not forget the parasite US population which wants cheap walmart products. Ask the Harris Teeter near Ballston, Arlington, VA how much of their $4 a pound of tomatos they have sold in the past ten days...all picked by Americans paid a highe wage. Then talk about parasites.

"Its everything to do with billions of dollars spent, to pacify the big Catholic church, a portion of Liberal voters and others who see nothing wrong in loading citizens, residents down with sky high taxes."

If you want to enforce the laws like the Europeans we need to pay the taxes like the Europeans.

"But American should realize strongly, that this has nothing to do with a persons color, religion or ethnic background--"

Sure Britannicus, your assertions have nothing to do with skin color, particularly regarding VDare...

Oh no. You got me wrong. In fact, I love all your comments. : ) One of the reasons I keep coming back here are to read your comments.

I just think you are one of those that deserves to have their own blog. I'm sure many will follow you to your own blog. : )

We need a blog site that will stand-up to these hate groups.

It always incredible to me how these people can easily stop analyzing all logic and stick to their story no matter how stupid it is... you are not going to find many friends in this blog nor buyers of what your are selling but it is nice to know that people like you are sticking to the same failed story. This spill is probably some old article that he pulled from the sites he is advertising.

In addition illegal immigrants can probablly help more GM than hurt it since they are BIG fans of their trucks...yet they can not be their customers due to their immigration status, I guess they rather keep the trucks parked at the dealership than allow people to get a driver's license and buy a truck.

Thanks. Now if I can only convince the economists here in Hawaii and back in Washington DC to undertake a study involving foreign direct investment and immigration..hopefully sometime this year they will start a study and have it concluded by next spring! I think I am moving in the right direction here at the University of Hawaii in convincing some folks!

Most likely. He may even be an agent of the Council of Conservative Citizens for all we know! At least three mass shootings took place in Tancredo's district during his tenure inlcuding the infamous Columbine. None of it invloved any Hispanics!
