ANTI-IMMIGRANT DEFEATED IN ILLINOIS US HOUSE BY-ELECTION

Rate this Entry

Yesterday, an election was held to fill the seat in the US House of Representatives of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel. Democratic Mike Quiqley easily defeated Republican Rosanna Pulido. What I found amazing is that the GOP actually nominated Ms. Pulido. She is the founder of the Illinois Minuteman Project and a former field coordinator for the Fedeation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

I'll let that sit for a second.

Quigly won by a margin of 70 to 24 percent. But what I find amazing is that the GOP still is going back to this loser issue and they are cementing the views of America's Hispanics as an anti-immigrant/anti-Latino party thus ensuring that they will continue to shrink into a regional party only able to win in the whitest, most conservative districts.

The GOP must be hell bent on committing suicide. What were they thinking? Running a minutement in a district with Hispanics. They belong in the mental asylum!

Wow. Still haven't learned anything yet.

On the flip side, I think this should further solidify that being on the pro-immigration side pays. This should also give further confidence for the pro-immigration politicians and hopefully this is another push for the few Dems still hesitant to be vote pro-immigration.

Add in Al Franken and the Dems can go 60 in the Senate.

NYT is reporting that the Obama Administration is getting ready for immigration reform.

Nothing new in the NYT report. All speculation.

Daily Show (Jon Stewart) had a totally great and wacky interview with one of the Minutemen "leaders". The guy looked like the unabomber - the GOP should get him to run, it would be such a treat!

It's called Gerrymandering. California's Democrat Gerrymanders got the GOP there stuck with people like B-1 Bob Dornan. In uncompetitive districts of either stripe, like Alabama's 7th district, the nominees of the GOP will, all other things being equal, be the most committed. This leads to people who are fairly ... outspoken.
Ditto for the Democrats, though in the 7th District, Artur Davis is a remarkable non-embarrassment, having replaced a pro-Libya, pro-Sudan (perhaps I should say pro-Quaddafi, pro Khartoum) member of the Congressional Black Caucus whose only claim to moderation was membership in the NRA. Somewhere between Maxine Waters and Cynthia McKinney. Artur is a decided improvement.
