SHOOTER AN IMMIGRANT?

Rate this Entry

NBC earlier reportedd the gunman may have been a Vietnamese immigrant named Jiverly Voong. Then they  reported the name is an alias, though the shooter was "no stranger" to the ACA. We'll have to see since the story seems to keep changing.

Too bad! Of course it would have been better for the antis if he was illegal..however, the fact that the Tech killer two years ago was legal did not stop the CIS and FAIR from espousing their anti-Asian bigotry!

Voong is NOT a Vietnamese last name....

the name vong is an alias name...and the story is unfolding in a different way:
"Rep. Maurice Hinchey, whose district includes Binghamton, said the gunman had recently been let go from IBM in Johnson City and opened fire on a citizenship class"
    hate crime.
let`s see now what Dobbs and the other say

Voong is not a Vietnamese last name. I'm not sure what original nationality of this man.
  5. George Chell's Avatar
They say that Voong may be an alias..if the guys is Caucasian then Dobbs would be on the defensive. If it is an immigrant killing other immigrants..heck, he may actually be happy!
  6. DINH LE's Avatar
VOONG DEFINITELY IS NOT VIETNAMESE LAST NAME.
  7. JoeF's Avatar
ABC News reports say that he was also known as Linh Phat Voong.
And they say: "U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey, a Democrat whose district includes Binghamton, initially told the Associated Press Voong had recently been laid off from IBM in Johnson City, but sources later told ABC News that the Voong who worked at IBM was a different person."

  8. JoeF's Avatar
And CNN lists his name as Jiverly Wong, which would be a Chinese name, I think.
  9. maiko's Avatar
it could be an Americanization of the Vietnamese last name Vuong (which, when pronounced correctly, will sound like voong).
  10. Tam Do's Avatar
hey , Voong is chinese name , NOT VIETNAMESE name ,
  11. Greg Siskind's Avatar
According to NBC, the name is an alias so we're probably back to where we were as far as not knowing who this guy is. I'll change the headline.
  12. phuong's Avatar
He is chinese, maybe born in Vietnam though but he's definitely not vietnamese. We hurt ourselves b4 we hurt others

someone looked at his ID but didn't know his last name is. Look at his ID again, please? Voong or Wong are not Vietnamese last name. Bl.ame on Vietnames that hurts our Vietnamese feeling. Please correct it if you know his last name.

Just another victim (victims) of the off-shoring/outsourcing/inshoring movement.

Taliban claim responsibility for New York shootout
    4 Apr 2009, 1220 hrs IST, REUTERS

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Taliban militant leader Baituallah Mehsud claimed on Saturday responsibility for an attack on a US immigration centre in New York state in which 13 people were killed.

"I accept responsibility. They were my men. I gave them orders in reaction to US drone attacks," Mehsud said by telephone from an undisclosed location.

A man armed with two handguns killed 13 people at an immigration services centre before apparently turning the gun on himself, authorities in Binghamton, New York, said.

Representative Maurice Hinchey, whose district includes Binghamton, told the New York Times that indications are the gunman was an immigrant from Vietnam.

Kevin - You are really a lowlife if you're going to condone mass murder because it supports your views.
  17. Jim's Avatar
I think it doesn't really matter what his ethnicity is, what his real age is, the manner he took his own life, etc... And no one is vilifying or blaming certain nationalities.

It's just standard protocol to know all that is needed to know in an investigation.

No one should use this tragedy to gain anything from it or make another excuse, to condone anything just to support their personal views, hate and political views.

  18. Kev Kallop's Avatar
I assume he is a legal immigrant. No-one is referring to him as an illegal alien, only immigrant.

Oh my, now every Asian immigrant will be potential mass murderer, this is the kind of thing that Dobbs is waitong for, and probably blame Mexico for it.
