ICE PAYING IMMIGRANT DETAINEES $1 A DAY FOR WORK

Rate this Entry

The Houston Chronicle has run a report  showing Immigration and Customs Enforcement is paying detained immigrants in Houston detention centers $1 per day for performing work such as cleaning, doing laundry, washing dishes, working as barbers, working in the medical clinic and more. 11,000 detainees participated in the Houston work program over the last year. ICE insists the program is voluntary, but some are seeing an irony:

"Why can the U.S. government hire undocumented immigrants? And not only
hire them, but get a day's work for a dollar?" said Brittney Nystrom,
senior legal advisor at the National Immigration Forum, an immigrant
advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. "It really is an
absurdity."

Rediculous! The US government obviously likes to borrow to fund such endeavors!

Hmmm.... can we raid ICE for illegaly employing illegals.

The excuses they are giving are no different of those employers that they raid, if not worse.

Maybe the illegals they have detained were also 'volunteering'
from their previous jobs and are not really employed but just 'volunteering' as well.

So what's the difference on what they are doing?
