I think if Immigration reform is tied to the economic recovery is a better proposal for the president and the country. Rather that flexing the muscle of the Hispanic vote early on the administration. If they flex the vote muscle too much is going to lose its punching power, I would save that card for later on in the game. On the other hand we will do anything that can help the country get out of the hole and immigration has something to contribute in that regard.

Unless we increase the visas for foreign investors who buy houses in this country, housing problems are bound to remain with us for a very long time to come.

Allow visas for Employment Based green cards - for instance nurses, a lot of that group will likely buy houses. Investor visas already exist, how many of them were actually issued ? Because not many poeple have a million dollars or half a million dollars to invest. But give green cards to legal workers from middle class, and likely houses sales will go up.

'...the exponential growth of the Hispanic population and voters during the past decade has made them a force to be reckoned with.'

I wonder if that has any effect on their immigration policy view? When it comes to immigration, these groups should be calling the shots because they are motivated purely by what's in the national interest.
