BREAKING NEWS: LOFGREN SELECTED TO CHAIR HOUSE ETHICS COMMITTEE

Rate this Entry

Wow. Lofgren has done an admirable job keeping the anti-immigrants at bay during a very rough period in the nation's migration history. Now she is being tapped to chair one of the most important committees in Congress, according to this report in CQ Politics. So if this is true, Logren will presumably give up her seat as Chair of the House Immigration Subcommittee. Who will take over? There are some great choices including Sheila Jackson Lee who led the Democrats on the Subcommittee when they were in the minority. And don't forget Luis Gutierrez, one of the most vocal pro-immigrant members of Congress who has served on the Subcommittee for several years.

[UPDATE: Sources are telling me that Lofgren will likely keep her Immigration Subcommittee Chairmanship which is great news, if true].

Greg, As a Chair of Ethics Committee, how can she make an impact on the immigration issues? If not, then we sure miss a great supporter. Hope the next immigration chair is as good as her.

This is not good news from an immigration perspective. First, Senator Kennedy and now Lofgren.

    Jeez,

is this a good news? Did you see HR264 from Sheila Lee Jackson?? No talk of EB at all. earned access to legalization, yeah right.. The right wing is going to have a field day on that

Gutierrez?? Again. he thinks that all the EB folks are rich and drive BMW's. Their hardships does not matter. All that matters is Hispanics and illegals. he and his caucus has successfully blocked the recapture last year. Idiots

Last time when I checked old Teddy has not given up the Senate Immigration sub committee. Teddy and Byrd support change but change does not apply to themselves. They will hang in there ill final moments and many aspiring leaders careers will be lost, while these guys cling to their seats.

I dont think that bill is going anywhere ... As far as I understand the bill talks about adjusting status for people who are in USA for last five years. I am all for such a bill as long as that bill does not exclude people who are here in status .. I could care less if they increase h1/EB numbers or not .

Its not about the bill HR264 in its entirety.

Its about Zoe's knowledge of the EB system and SLJ's knowledge of the EB system. Either SLJ does not give a damn about the EB system or she does not care to understand it. Either way, such people spell doom for EB system as they bundle up EB with illegals.

First, I have to disagree about Ms. Jackson-Lee's record on employment immigration. I've been an observer of the committee for a number of years and she has a solid record. Second, I've just gotten a tip that Lofgren may not be giving up the Subcommittee chair. She may be able to be both Ethics Committee chair and immigration subcommittee chair at the same time. Not sure about the other subcommittee she chairs.

    A classy comment! Sarcasm intended!
