Sounds like its a job that nobody wants to do, may be they should offer it to an undocumented worker.

pick me pick me! 50 day director!

As long as these are political positions and not career positions, this is what we will see. Probably I am being ignorant here, but can some one enlighten me why there are so many political positions with in every agency. Can every one else other than the secretary and few other important positions be career based and have a term of 4-8 years? No wonder all the republicans at DOJ in the Bush administration acted in their own interest and screwed all those people whose ideas/background was not aligned with them.
Now its the Dems turn to screw every agency.

That "just 6 months after taking the position" crack makes no sense. Scharfen was a political appointee who would have had to leave in January anyway. Lots of politicals are leaving this month. How long was he Deputy Director before that? And how, exactly, are USCIS, ICE, and the AAO "leaderless"?

    Hey Tex -

ICE's head resigned about six weeks ago and there is no head at that agency. USCIS now has no director. AAO's chief judge died a couple of weeks ago. This was not a political statement. Just reciting the facts.

As for the timing of the departure, I believe Scharfen is a USCIS career employee who was the acting caretaker at the top. He could have stayed until a new appointee was confirmed.

Finally, if people think the thousands of political appointees are going to be in place the day after Obama is sworn in, they're in for a surprise. When Bush came in, people were still being confirmed up through the summer.

    That one:

Now here is an idea: They should hire a well educated but undocumented workers to be CEOs of Chrysler, Ford and GM and perhaps the financially troubled financial institutions as well...They will do the job for one-tenth the pay and perhaps get these corporations to make a profit...perhaps their performance would definitely be far better than the moron running Chrysler, who got the job after he ran Home Depot to the ground! Perhaps what we need is a bunch of undocumented CEOs to break the back of the incompetent American CEO good old boy's network! Perhaps jobs would be saved as well!
