ZOGBY POLLS FOR HATE GROUP

Rate this Entry

Zogby International used to be considered one of the more reliable polling organizations in the US. But the firm has come under considerable fire of late for who it accepts money from and the nature of the polling work it is doing for these groups. Earlier this week, the firm drew fire for what appears to be "push polling" conducted for an extreme right wing web site.

Today we learn that FAIR - the anti-immigrant group that has been designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center - has commissioned its own poll from Zogby which - shocking - purports to show that the American public agrees with FAIR's extreme views. The SPL, incidentally, is one of the nation's most respected organizations that monitors the activities of hate groups.

Zogby owes the public an explanation.

Zogby would take money from everyone. So what if American people agree with FAIR. I dont care what they think..I do care what they do. They voted for Obama and the GOP nominated McCain and the American people knew that both favored amnesty. If the American people agreed with FAIR, why did not they vote for Fred Thompson?

So much for the credibility of pollsters in America!! They are more like influence in any debate according to the highest bidder.

And Janet Murguia of La Raza and Frank Sharry of 'America's Voice' commissioned polls which - shocking - purport to show that the American public agrees with their views on immigration. Groups with an axe to grind commission polls to claim America agrees with them? No way!

A basic, neutral poll question on immigration is whether you favor higher, about the same, or lower levels of immigration. Over the years, higher immigration consistently shows the least public support--BY FAR.

Greg, in your posts you sound like you have a high regard for the the Southern Poverty Law Center but the SPLC considers the H-2 program 'close to slavery' and 'inherently abusive'.

When it comes to FAIR (and related groups), I notice political opponents' first and often only response is ad hominem or using a favorite disparaging adjective, not a rebuttal to what is actually claimed. The SPLC designation is brought up as if nothing more is necessary. Not that the other side isn't also rhetorically lazy when it, e.g., dismisses out of hand anything La Raza says because it's name translates as 'The Race'.
